If you're talking about the switch on the heater itself, that turns off electric and has nothing to do with propane or flame. If it's a different switch then that depends on what it's wired to, but may be flame related. But you didn't state your problem well enough for me to follow, so perhaps a little more info on your problem -- or maybe someone can read between the lines.
 
I agree, it sounds like you have an SW6DE which also has a 120VAC electric heating element, not not just the propane only SW6D with Electronic ignition, or the SW6 which is the basic pilot light model.
 
Ya eventually you’ll fix the problem by throwing parts into it without knowing what the real culprit is. If you give us more details we may be able to save you a bunch of money unless if money is not a issue and grows on trees in your back yard. 🤣😅😅
