Summer is over

We recently returned from our summer retreat in Wyoming, and have re-engaged with local communities and activities. Weather here in our part of CA is a comfortable mid/high 80s.

Last week I resumed weekly rehearsals with our ukulele band, getting ready for holiday concerts. I didn't play uke much during the summer, preferring to play my 12-string guitar. I'm having to re-train muscle memory.

After a couple of days of prep, today I got the fishing boat out on the water, trading my fly fishing tackle for bass baits. Somehow, doggies always knew when I was heading out on the water, and would beat me from the patio door, down the ramp, and onto the boat. Regrettably, we lost one dog while in WY, but her surviving Mom beat me onto the boat this morning, and we enjoyed a morning on the water.

Tomorrow I attend the monthly luncheon of our retired guys' club and, in the evening, uke practice.

Chris has re-engaged with her local groups and activities.

Tell me about it. Returned from our last weekend trip about noon today and winterized the camper this afternoon.

I prefer my summers to be in the middle of winter. Just hop in the RV and find a nice warm place to go to in December. Like last year in the Everglades, or the year before in southern AZ.

We have had one soft freeze so far. and hard freezes coming. A/C is enjoying a vacation and the Furnace is not yet in business so my Consumer's Power bill should look like it hit the Shrinkey Dink this month (YIPPIE) I may need the money for Gasoline however.. Plan on not one but two Trips to the Detroit area.. Concerts I'd like to attend.. One is a performer I know and have heard before (he will be playing a brand new pipe organ) and the other is "Spooky Strings".. Oh yes.

A friend of ours recently inherited a Ukulele. She is now enrolled in a Clovis CA night class that teaches how to play the Ukulele.
About 30 people are enrolled...I was really surprised at that.

The popularity of the ukulele has taken off over the last 10 or so years. When I joined this band, we were 9 players. Soon after, I brought in a long-time friend who is a great musician, and who taught himself to play uke in order to teach me.

He's taught new players individually and, as a result, we built the band to 70 members. Things slowed during early covid, and some members didn't return, but we continue to maintain the membership around 60.

When I got back to Pahrump yesterday temperatures were in the mid 80s but there was a dusting of snow on top of Mt. Wheeler between Pahrump and Las Vegas.
