Have a new (to us) 2003 Class A and am wondering if folks are using them and if you have thoughts between Progressive versus TRC.  Appears Progressive is the choice as lifetime warranty, US product, etc.  I am talking portable, not hard-wired.  30 amp version.  Thanks

I've had both.  Last year in Montreal we got a brown out down to about 92 volts while the Splendide dryer was running.  The TRC surge protector was not the type to drop the low voltage.  I had to replace the circuit board in the dryer at about $300.

We traded coaches and I installed a Progressive Industries unit that will drop the load when the power goes below 104 volts or above 130 volts.  Hopefully we don't have to test that feature, but if I do hopefully won't lose some expensive 120 volt electronics.

I have the hardwired TRC 34560 which does voltage etc. The most important thing is to pick one and start using it. Mine has saved me a couple times.

We have the TRC (Surge Guard brand) system, which is integrated with our auto transfer switch. Progressive is a fine unit also. I've seen lengthy debates or which is better, but am not impressed with the arguments either way. Mostly splitting hairs, IMO.  If you see pluses for the Progressive unit, go for it!

The question of whether you need it or not is more difficult. Depends on where you camp and what is going on when you are there. "Surges" aren't really the issue in most places, but you may encounter miswired outlets, low voltage and other power problems. A combined surge protector and power monitor is insurance against that (relatively rare) situation where a power problem could damage one of your appliances, most likely an a/c. Older - or smaller - RV parks tend to have shaky electrical systems and oddball things can happen. That's when having a power monitor device can avoid problems.

Thanks all for your comments, and we've ordered the portable 30 amp progressive.
