We have a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller that all of a sudden started acting up. No matter where I adjust the power knob, I get full braking power. The boost button has always been set on b2 but I played with the other settings and I still get full braking power. I went to the Tekonsha website and it is down and I tried calling their technical support for answers and it is down. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue. The brake controller was purchased in 2005 when we purchased our HHII so it is no spring chicken. I have no problem replacing it but figured I'd try asking all of you for your input before I do that. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think you already know the answer. Ditch it and get a new one, P2, P3, doesn't matter, just replace it and call it done. Should be an easy replacement, you won't need anything but the controller. Old cable will work (unless you switch to something different than a Tekonsha.

did you remove the power for a bit and give it another try. got my P-2 back in 2007 and it still works fine.

I wonder if they are still made in Tekonsha
It's a town in Michigan. about Mile 25 on I-69
(Two exits one south of town I think 25 is North of town)

I believe the Prodigy P2 has a lifetime warranty contact Tekonsha for details.

The dealer I had purchased a P3 replaced one that I had that was defective.

I smoked one last year, even though they don't have any moving parts they do fail. Mine just quit and didn't give any indication. Turns out it was probably because the emergency cable had been activated while the truck was plugged into the rig. Apparently this is a BIG no-no and WILL damage the controller. If you've had this thing for twenty years it's paid for, pick up another one.

Spoke with tech support at Tekonsha and they felt the power knob electronics failed causing the full power operation. I also confirmed it when I borrowed a friend's Prodigy 2 and it worked fine with my truck/trailer. Tekonsha may be warranting the controller because the Prodigy has a limited lifetime warranty. Won't find out for a few days but that is great customer service. Thanks everyone for your input.
