Television Trouble

Just installed a new in motion system and tried it out on a new TV. After about an hour of driving the TV totally died. It wasn't even showing a power light. The outlet tested fine, but I'm concerned that maybe there is something I don't know about generators running TVs in a motorhome that is hazardous to their help.

Anyone have a similar problem? Do you need a surge protector or some kind of voltage regulator to protect a TV, or was this a freak occurrence? I just got another TV and don't want to hook it up until I know it's safe.

The generators in most motor homes are well designed and fairly clean output wise.  I'm guessing your tv just suffered a "Senior moment" and when a TV suffers one of those... it's time for a new tv

The only danger in running a generator to run a tv while driving is if you are watching a television WHILE driving, not a good idea, illegal most of the places

I have an in motion sat system also, but am not sure how it could sting your TV.? I suspect it had more to do with the power outlet, maybe a surge?? The only connection to your TV from the motion system is via the audio and video inputs, or maybe via the RF antenna connection.? And in most motorhomes that is usually via a device switchbox of some kind.

You said it was a new tv. How new? New tv's will usually fail in their first few hours of operation. How hot was it inside? Is it installed in a well ventilated location? If your other electronic devices work o.k. on generator power, the tv should also. It's possible, but highly unlikely, that the genset is putting out a very dirty waveform, but you can't determine that without an oscilloscope. I suggest you try the new set on inverter power for several hours before switching to the genset. The in-motion dish should have nothing to do with your problem.

BTW: some sets have a circuit breaker in the rear; small red button. Did you try resetting it? Did you try powering it on from the front panel and not from the remote control after it conked out?
