A member found a hole in a cold air intake hose while traveling and wanted a temporary repair for another two months and about 3,500 miles before replacing it at home. Members suggested self-fusing silicone tape, stronger wide tapes, cloth tape, vapor barrier or corrugated hose tape, adding a small support strip, or using a gooey sealant with tape over it because the corrugated flexible surface can be hard to seal.
Several members noted the risk depends on whether the split is before or after the air filter and MAF sensor, since unfiltered dust entering after the filter could be a serious concern for a diesel engine. The member wrapped it with silicone tape, carried Gorilla Tape as a backup, reported it was still holding after 200 miles, and planned to keep monitoring it until returning home.
