Evs are going to get better. Some of the battery tech that is close to being ready looks very promising. Shame they cant get supercapacitors to discharge slower. Recharge would take almost time on those

Speaking of "Super capicators"

It's just a computer keyboard.. Wireless and.. >BATTERYLESS.. Yup. Now how did they do that> Not a fan of you tube but the answer.. Super capacitors and a solar panel.

It uses capacitors rather than batteries. The solar panel part is newer tech and far more efficient than traditional.

The product hasnt been released yet so wont know for a while how well it works.

OIC, I don't know how I missed that part, I see John already said such. I must be typing before reading or something. But I know why . . .I have not yet had my coffee; I am still half asleep.

This is the article I was referencing saying GM Defense made an extended-range EV with diesel engine. I hope this EREV tech makes it into the consumer market (on a truck/suv chassis), as my 2016 Volt is getting long in the tooth.

why arent they going with more range on the battery side? 141 miles for an ev isnt very good these days
It's heavy enough!

The Ramcharger battery is 92-kilowatt hours. My Long-Range Tesla Model 3 Battery is 80 KWH. 92 KWH is reasonable for that pickup truck since it carries its own gasoline 145 KW DC Fast Charger. IMO, it is just right for somebody like me.

That 141-miles should get me to Reno (99.0 miles) from here, even in the hills and when cold. It would be nice to not have to worry if the battery alone can make it, just let it turn on the genny for the last few miles.

If I owned it, it would rarely start the gas genny. I would need to run the genny once in a while just like I need to in my RVs--even when I am not trying to use them.

That one is easy.. These days I normally drive less than 100 miles per trip.. Today for example it's about 5 miles to Kroger, and 5 more back.. The JEEP will barley warm it's engine Same for Church (Across the road from Kroger) and Aldi (2 miles farther different direction) End of the month I do a "Long drive" about 70 miles each way.. I may take a "Senic" route home and hit 120.

This is typical of many drivers. ao a 140 Mile range is good.,

If I decide to go vislt my brother on teh other side of the state (over 200 MIles) Crank up the generator. Or my daughter (Other side of the Rockies) Same same.

It comes on automatically when the battery gets low, so you do not have to do anything.

The Ramcharger is mainly for those to get better range when towing. Something I don't do. It will not get anything near that 690 spec when towing, but perhaps close to half that which will still be a decent range, and to be able to fill it up at either a gas or charge station is nice too. But then only around a 70-mile range on the battery, if even that, depending on the weight of the toad.

Another advantage of EV. Move it all you want when it is ice cold, such as you want to move it a few feet after not being used for weeks--which they say is bad for an ICE engine.

That is one of the weakest arguments for an ev i ever heard lol

My jeep warms up extremely fast. The f350 takes forever.

As long as you give a minute or 2 for the oil to circulate you shouldnt have any issues. Almost takes me longer than that to put on my seatbelt, adjust seat and mirrors, etc.

Many believe you shouldn't start cold ICE engines for just a short time. Wears them out much faster. Not an issue with EVs.

Starting puts more wear and tear on an ice in part cause the oil is sitting in the pan. No argument there but how many times do you ned to move a car a few feet and how often do you hear people complain they wore out their ice from starting it too much?

In the 70s you were lucky to get 100k out of a lot of cars. Now you only do a tune up every 100k.

You are seriously stretching to prove evs are superior when for a large % of people they simply arent

It has been many times for me, such as to have a tree chopped down where one of my motorhomes was in the way. The last time I had to move both of them, was a few months ago to have my driveway repaved. Other reasons come up too.
I have never heard anyone say i bought an ev cause i only need to drive 5ft. That is ridiculous.
Not a reason to buy, perhaps there is no single reason for anybody to buy an EV. It's just one more of the countless little, small advantages of EVs. Also, if you need to move it in your closed garage to get to something where it's in the way, you won't die from the smog!

So when will you buy your EV? ;)

i want an ev but gonna be a while before they make one that will work for me. Even longer the more i am pushed to buy one.

Cant agree they have countless advantages. Right now for what i need i am seeing it as about 20/80 advantage to disadvantage ratio.
