I always liked this idea. If I needed the extra range or needed to tow it is what I would want as long as it could charge by every possible method as well--such as the RamCharger.

I do not care for hybrids, but the EREVs are 100% EV. They simply carry their own gasoline DC Fast Charger. Use these anywhere, more ways to run than a normal ICE car.

Now if I only had a need for one. I don't. My current EVs have more than enough range for me.

Something I've suggested over and over again

My vision is an EV with a "Drop in" Generator that could also be used "Stand alone" when Consumers lets you down.
But I do not know how heavy it would be.

The Ramcharger genny can be used, it has AC outlets for other stuff. But I doubt if it can be removed easily and I assume the truck fills up with gas the same as an ICE vehicle--that the genny doesn't have its own tank. But it doesn't look like it has 240 VAC:

They should be at the dealers soon, if not already there. I am tempted to look at one as I am very curious about it. I almost wish I had a need for one, but I don't.

Not something we would ever need but can see some folks making use of them. Looking forward to seeing the Ram charger.

Since you tow a lot, it would make sense for you to own one. You should want to trade in your Tesla in on a Ramcharger. ;)

The generator portion would never get used.
I think if I owned one, that would be the same here. It will probably only be ran to be warmed up once in a while. But since you often tow and that gives half the range, I thought it would be more useful to you.

Especially if you make that trip to Mexico, where charging could be a bit iffy at some places.

I would be more tempted to buy it if the genny had a 240 VAC/50 amp output.

Yah I suppose. A long range cybertruck or Chevy Silverado 4WT would still be a better choice for us. But we prefer to tow with an SUV. Better fit for us. And range really isn’t an issue how we travel.

I’m sure it will will be great for those with bigger trailers who tow long distance though. Should be interesting.

Depending on the generator.... and what outlets it has that coudl be very useful.. Not rushing out to buy one but that's mostly because as I said.. I seriously doubt I'll ever buy a new car again... The one I have may well outlast me.

The Chevrolet Volt EREV has been around since 2011. It is awesome! I have 26,000 miles on my 2016, and only 2,000 of them used the generator. I am hoping the latest article I saw about Chevrolet sending an EREV Silverado to the DoD for evalution gets turned into something that can be available commercially (sadly no specifics on how far it would go on battery only, however the Silverado EV gets > 400 miles on a full battery -- could easily halve that and plop in their 2.8 or 3.0 mini Duramax). Would really love a mid size or even a full size EREV SUV to replace my Volt as it is getting long in the tooth (and spare parts are starting to become as rare as rocking horse poop).

My Vision is a EV with a "Drop in" generator. Said Generator would operate as a "Stand Alone" at home in the event the power company De-Lights you (As they so often do) and in the car when you need LDO (long Drive Operations). Of course a proper size generator.. Might need a hoist to install it in the car (Common engine hoist woudl work)

50-80 KWH.. well A 5-10 KW Generator would be indicated for Range Extension.

Don,

I guess I do not understand your definition of hybrid. The Volt was introduced in 2010 as an "EREV". Nobody understood what that meant until Honda (or someone else?) came up with the term "Plug-in Hybrid".

My generation II has a 18.4 kWh battery and an engine that turns a generator that generates electricity to run the car when the battery gets to a certain SOC.

I have 29,125 miles on the car, in which 26,214 are all electric. During the summer months I can get nearly 60 miles on a charge, and in the winter months I can get around 40 miles.

I was just saying that it would be nice if they come up with another EREV vehicle on a truck/suv platform.

The Ram Charger can do that!

I know but by "Stand Alone" I mean NOT attached to the vehicle..
A Honda 3500 think I can lift. at least with help (Sat next to one once) but 5000 or heavier. If properly designed I could lift with a common engine hoist to set in and remove.. then attach an aux fuel tank (Quick disconnects and a small Motorcycle size battery to crank 'er up and use it for house power and STILL drive the ride.
For a car I'd use a smaller genny I could likely lift.
