The EREVs

I just bought a Mitsubishi Mirage, the first new car I've purchased in over 50 years. It's fun to drive and has everything I need. At $17k and 40-50 MPG the difference in price between it and any electric car will pay for over 150,000 miles of driving - even if you can recharge the electric car for free. And that's before considering other things that are less expensive like tires and insurance.

And I do have an electric "car" - a golf cart I use to putt around the RV park. Powered by 3 Chins lithium batteries that cost less and have more range than the 6 lead acid batteries it came with.

@DonTom what are you paying for insurance on your tesla and how long do the tires last?

I just called my insurance agent and was told a 2022 tesla s would cost me 3 to 4 times what i am paying on my current vehicles
Funny you should ask because I just checked them today. I have 20,000 miles on my original 2018 Tesla Tires. They look good for another 10K or so. Not yet anything near the wear indicators. But I hear of other Teslas eating up tires very fast, it must be the way they drive. I drive much like a little old lady, cars or motorcycles. I am rarely in a hurry these days.

I have my insurances all paid automatically and I don't even look at the charge, so I am not sure. But Tesla "S" will cost a lot more to insure than a Model 3 or Y. The "S" is a more expensive sport model.

Let me check my insurance bill at Progressive.com and see if I can find my Tesla insurance charge.

Yep!

So it's $2,663.76 per year. That is for CA, which is probably more than what you would pay in CO. I have a perfect driving record, no tickets or accidents. So perhaps that will give you a rough idea. But just about everything costs more in CA.

The way I have been doing my plates is if I buy the vehicle in CA, the CA plate stays. Same with NV, I then get a NV plate. I don't think there is much difference between the two. Reno auto insurance is also expensive. They say it is because of all the drunks caused by the legal 24/7 booze here.

That is one of the weakest arguments for an ev i ever heard lol

Where I grew up it was 7 miles to town and around 15 or 20 to "The City" so the car barley got warmed up.. and it got gunked up.. Then once a month they drove roughly 80 miles one way and back.. And the car ran much much better for a week before it started gunking up again .... So it's a mighty strong argument.

I've seen what happens when a car does not get properly warmed a few times.

I think they both look fine. The more I see the Cybertruck the more I like its looks.

I saw a filthy Cybertruck charging at the Superchargers at Verdi yesterday. It had a Texas lic plate. Looked like it took all unpaved muddy roads to get there or something, it was covered in dirt and mud.

At the time, I was using the free 10 KW AC charge stations next to the restaurant that I had lunch in. In the time I had lunch, I added another 20% SOC with is around 60 miles of range added for free. Or paid for with my lunch, some would say.

The Cybertruck is also built much like a brick S. house. Looks very tough. Have you seen one close up? I have, inside and out. I was impressed by the quality from what I could tell by a good close up look at a new one in Rocklin, CA. The same place I purchased my Model 3 in 2018. I wouldn't mind owning one, but I have no use for it. Perhaps if I drive from here to Auburn in the snow a lot, but I find it easier to just wait out the snow than to go over Donnor Summit at the 30 MPH speed limit they have during a chain control (chains not required with AWD or 4WD). Besides, my Tesla is AWD, just has a low ground clearance compared to the cybertruck. But if the snow is too deep for it, I will stay home anyway, even if I did own such a truck.

Besides, if I were to buy a new truck, it would probably be the Dodge Ramcharger EREV. But I would probably give the Cybertruck a 2nd look if I were serious about buying. But I have no need for either at this time.

Depending on how you describe "Ugly" it's not One of the ugliest I've ever seen.

It's the Ugliest. and My Daughter's first car was a Gremlin)

Only thing Uglier was... well let's just say it was a long way from "Brand New" and a short way from "Junk Yard" .

Always liked this one in this color. Came close to buying one a while back but life got in the way.
