The last time you had a tire blow out-- car/truck/rv/etc. ?

I am interested to hear if anyone has had the loud bang type blow out with a Carlisle trailer tire. I am a Goodyear Endurance guy. My camping buddies and I have well over 100 k miles without a blow out on the Endurance. I really like the Endurance, but I also like the Carlisle price. I don't know if there is any savings that really could motivate me to switch, but Carlisle's is the only other band that I would possibly consider.

no, never on a Carlisle but I had an only slightly used Endurance tire pop on me a few days ago right at the Forest Gump photo spot. every bit of pull off space was full of tourists so had to slowly limp about 100 yards down the road to get off the highway. I put on the spare..also an Endurance and got back on the road. when I pulled into our rv site in Page, one of my other Endurance tires looked flat and only had 10# of air...cracked valve stem. I have sworn by these tires but may have to dial that praise back some. could only get a Mastertrack tire in Page as a replacement but it did fine on the trip back to Ft. Worth. cant find out anything about them tho.

Not related to a blowout while driving but there's some good advice in this video. Unfortunately it's a FB video.

Most people dont fully appreciate the power contained in a tire and the bigger the tire...

Was some time ago but we had an old hay wagon that had split rim tires. No way any local shops would work on them. Don't blame 'em as at the time I wasn't aware of the potential danger.

man, i just stumbled on this old thread and it gave me the shakes all over again. i had a run-in with a massive tire gator in 2025 that basically turned my front end into scrap metal. just like some of you mentioned, it was obvious the commercial trailer it came off of hadn't seen a maintenance shop since the Clinton administration.

i was getting the total runaround from the carrier's adjusters until I worked with Dolt, Thompson, Shepherd, Conway & Stanton PSC. they were honestly the only ones who understood the mess i was in and didn't treat me like just another claim number while i was recovering.

I had 2 GY endurance tires go on my 5th wheel last summer in Utah. neither were big pops tho. one happened at the Forest Gump picture spot and there was no place to pull over because people were parked everywhere for 100 yards each way so I nursed it a little farther to a pull out where some locals were selling trinkets and changed it. another went right outside of Moab and again I was able to slow down and get to town and into the place we were going to stay and change it there. I felt pretty lucky neither tire caused any damage but til then I felt pretty confident with the endurance tires. the only replacement I could get there was MasterTrack which worried me all the way back to Ft. Worth because I couldnt find any info on them.

Last flat I had was on my car. Slow leak it was paked when it went flat not at all exciting.

Last "in motion" flat was a rear dual inner tire on my Motor home.. Heard to boom was another hundred miles before I figured out what went boom.. Did not affect handling and no secondary damage.

I had a fifth wheel and while towing, a car came by and motioned something pointing to the rear of the trailer. I managed to find a safe place to pull over. It was the right rear had blown. The wheel was still spinning when I got around to that side. All that was left on the wheel was what was left of the beads. The wheel was about 2” off the pavement. I never heard anything or felt any change in handling. Back then I had a 1997 Dodge dually with the Cummins. That engine as so loud that why I never heard anything and it was nearly impossible to see the rear wheels from my outside mirrors

I've had a few times when a slow leak was only apparent while on the road, causing me to pull over and change the tire, but the only blowout I can recall was decades back, in the '70s while I was still living in Albuquerque.

We were on I-25, heading to visit my folks in Ft. Collins, and were coming down the north side of Raton Pass at 65-70 mph when a front tire blew on our Oldsmobile. It was a Uniroyal tire that was original equipment, and I've never bought that brand since. Thankfully I had no problem getting slowed down and pulling off onto the shoulder, but it wasn't exactly a fun experience.

The only loud band deflation I've ever experienced was in 2005 when a valve extender came loose from its mounting bracket and broke off. Quickly lost all air in right front tire. Fortunately I was able to pull off the road (an interstate) within a few hundred yards. I removed the extension, re-inflated the tire, and motored on.

I've lost one other motorhome tire, but none that "blew out" in the classic sense. Also two trailer tires, also just sudden deflation but no big bang or shredded rubber. That's 20 years and around 150,000 miles of RVing.

The only time I have had a tire explode, sending rubber flying with lots of noise was in July of 1960, when I was driving my dad's 1948 Studebaker pickup with a load of stuff for my mother from the farm into town as they were moving. I have no idea how old the tires may have been but I do know that dad bought then used and I was going down a grade with no shoulders when it happened. It had split rims and the wheel & tire were not fun to get off and the spare on. Dad always said that I did something wrong to cause it and I bought another used tire to replace it. I was only 17 at the time.

I've never had a blowout and can't remember the last time I've actually had a flat tire. Maybe I'm just lucky.
🤞🤞

Been over 20 years since my last flat tire. Until last week on my F250. Valve stem split. Those tires and steel wheels are very heavy. Felt like 70 to 80 pounds. Getting it lifted up to mount took some creative strategy which included using a 2x4 as a lever. Not fun.

Had a blow out on my truck 40 miles east of Barstow,CA while pulling trailer and just starting to pass an 18 wheeler on I-40. Wife was driving and did an excellent job of getting us to the side of the road safely. $3500 damage to right side truck bed.

I witnessed a blowout one of those tow-behind compressors that contractors use for jackhammer and such. It was being towed with your basic pickup on I-80 at highway speed. Once it let loose the driver needed all 3 lanes to get it stopped. Fortunately it wasn't rush hour so he had the room he needed to wrestle it to a stop. No damage but I bet he needed a change of underwear

Yesterday, driving out to do some RZR, desert riding, thru Apple Valley CA, we passed a pick up truck pulling a big camping trailer... It looked odd coming at us, until we noticed it had a flat on the front, right truck tire... What was odd about it was he was driving about 30 MPH... As it got closer we could see it had no tire on it, and was just driving down the road on it's bare rim.... Maybe a couple if strands of the tire belt, but no rubber... And it looked to be an aluminum rim and not steel... He was just happily driving down the road, not looking to pull off, as there was a ton of room alongside that desert road... I looked over at my Son, who was driving our truck and trailer, and he just shook his head and said "Only out here"....

The only one I've ever experienced...either as a driver or a passenger...was when i was driving my 32ft class C.
I was warned by a thump-thump-thump for a bit and immediately slowed way down...should have pulled over, and if I had I'm pretty sure that I'd still be saying that I've never experienced one.
But as it was I had just passed the spot on a highway not too far from home, where just a week or so prior someone was killed on the side of the road, rear-ended when they pulled over
and I had my wife and kids on board
so
I slowed way down and tried to milk it to an off-ramp maybe a mile or so away. Just about made it, too....but BANG
then several moments later, beep-beep-beep from my TPMS

Been about ten years. We knew the tires were getting old (5 years) and were going to replace them when we finished our trip. We were on the last leg heading home when it happened. Timing is everything...

Now I replace at four years, and am OCD about tire care and maintenance. Haven't had an incident since.
