I saw a Ford Pinto with 200,000 miles on it, proving the Ford Pinto was a great car. Otherwise, the cost of maintenance on an EV is exponentially higher than that for an ICE vehicle. That's just one of the reasons Hertz dumped them.
 
Saw an announcement that Tesla is discontinuing the Model 3. Too bad, given the longevity suggested by that article.

Hi Tom. No. They are discontinuing the model 3 standard range in North America because it used a Chinese LFP battery. There are still 3 models of model 3 available in North America. (Canada USA and Mexico).
1. RWD long range. (560 kilometre range).
2. AWD long range
3. AWD performance.

All batteries for all teslas sold in North America are made in North America.

Thanks for the clarification. I obviously wasn't paying sufficient attention. I tend to have newscasts on in the background, like some folks have background music, but I'm not necessarily listening to all the detail, unless something grabs my attention.

No worries. The best bang for ones buck is still the RWD long range at just under 43000 USD before incentives.
 
That's just one of the reasons Hertz dumped them.
That was mainly a USA thing because of expensive repairs for minor crashes and the fact that the values of EVs drop fast, as expected, now that they are rather common cars.

"It still plans to offer a range of electrified vehicles and "stick to our goal to electrify 70-90 percent of our rental fleet in Europe by 2030", it said on Thursday."

When I purchased my Tesla M3 in 2018, the long-range Tesla was the only one available. The smaller batteries with cheaper price tags came later--from China.

I wanted the LR anyway, but since then I discovered my Tesla has about twice the range I need. But it's better to have it and not need it than vice versa.

I’m not a fan of RWD because of where we live. But that long range RWD model 3 for 43000 USD seems like a pretty good deal for the fair weather folks who do lots of road tripping in a sedan.

I can trust a Forbes article or someone who actually owned a fleet of EV's and ICE vehicles and was paying for the maintenance.

Well, I pay the maintenance costs for my Tesla M3 and Chevy Bolt they have been
negligible compared to ANY ICE vehicle I have owned in the past.

Same here. My Tesla M3 is dual motor AWD. I recently moved it to Reno because the snow season could start anytime.

But it's been extra hot for this time of year, especially here in Auburn. Snow here in Auburn is very rare. And even then, it rarely sticks to the road.

Reno gets more snow than rain. Auburn gets a lot more rain than snow.

It so hot here, I decided to go back to Reno today where it is cooler. Can't do much outside in this heat.

We use to own a property in Palm Springs. It’s freakin 117 degrees there yesterday. Glad we sold. The useable season was getting shorter and shorter. Crazy.

Which means you must expect some fender benders (can be much more expensive in some EVs)and are concerned with resale values. I do not worry about either, but if I owned such a business, I would also be concerned.

I learned an interesting thing about my Tesla navigation system today, by accident. And that is to always use it, even when I know where I am going.

I used it to get here today. No reason other than to see how far I need to go and not miss the exit and stuff like that.

I normally do NOT use it for this trip. What luck that I decided to use it!

On the way here, my Tesla screen said "Traffic stopped ahead, recalculating for better route--will save 1 hour and 45 minutes." And it did just that. I came out from the smaller mountain roads at the very front of the long line. I was able to see the stopped traffic on I-80, For many miles from several places that I could not see in advance on I-80.

That's a miracle of modern engineering except Google Maps has been doing that since forever.

I assumed it was done elsewhere as well. But I normally use a simple GPS without a traffic receiver for my motorcycles and other vehicles.

I now see the advantages of the traffic receiver. It saved me more than an hour today. Perhaps was even better than the legal lane splitting on motorcycles in CA.

It found the best route many miles before I could see any trace of the problem.

A good winter destination. But perhaps not in an RV, unless you are willing to pay more than a hundred bucks per night.
