We just bought a 2001 dutch star but the tires are very large in comparison to most other rigs we were told  the previous owner installed standard transport tires which are larger in height and that they are (although offer a slightly harder ride )
a better tire than standard rv tires .what do you folks think of this.

Derfy,

Get the numbers off the side of the tires so we know what you have. That will be the only way we can tell if they are the right tires or not.

You should have either 275/70-22.5 or 275/80 on that Mh.  Probably the 275/80s.  That is what I have on my 2001

Check the data placard and see what your GVWR is as it varied depending on when the unit was built.  Some units were as low as 27,000 and there ore others that have a GVWR of 31,000 as min does.

Enjoy the DS.

Dutch Star in 1998 undersized the tires which caused frequent blowouts.  Not sure about subsequent years.

A larger tire will carry more weight, but also allow you to carry less PSI which makes it ride softer.

Don't remove them just because they may be larger than factory issue.  If the larger size works as is, just stay with what you have.  Weigh the axles and compare to the tire-sizing charts and be guided accordingly.
