Hello all,

My husband and I have just purchased a 2002 Embassy Triple E motor home. Although it is old, it is in very good condition and only has 50,000km on it. We bought it from a family friend who unfortunately was recently widowed and will no longer be RVing. Her husband was an auto mechanical instructor at a local technical college, kept excellent records and added extremely useful notes to the well organized manuals. I really wish we had had the opportunity to meet him, apparently he was a great guy, and I would have loved to have him walk us through the systems and operations.

We are planning on retiring at the end of 2026 and travelling extensively. During the Canadian winter, we plan to travel internationally (Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand etc.). In the Canadian summer, the plan is to live in the RV and travel across Canada. The intention is for the RV to be our sole Canadian home. We will winterize it and store in at whatever location we end the RVing season in, and then return to that location and continue on when we get back from our international travel.

We have no experience with RVing so this is all new to us. We have been working on understanding the RV system by system. So far we have:
  • Done an inventory of the equipment in the storage compartments
  • Run the generator
  • Worked out the awning
  • Leveled the RV using the hydraulic leveling jacks
  • Extended the slide out
Next we plan to work on the water storage and getting the plumbing up and running. Our first trip is planned for August long weekend, so we have some time to get a handle on things (hopefully with the experts here!)

Wish us luck!

Something we learned when first starting out many years ago, many folks in a rv park will help if you ask. If your having a issue you just can not figure out, ask your neighbor. Of course some won't know more than you do, but someone will. Your going to have a blast, everyday you get to meet someone new or see something you never saw before.

Thanks for the warm welcome - we will definitely will get friendly with the neighbors at the RV park. Nothing like someone with experience and willing to share their knowledge.

Welcome to the forum
One thing you have to do is check the date codes on all the tires. If they are 7/8 years old, you need to replace them even if the tread looks good. Tires age out from the inside out especially if they just sat for a long time.
Another thing is to sanitize your entire water system including your water heater. Do that by draining as much water as you can. Then add 1/4 cup of Clorox to your fresh water tank for every 15 gallons of water. Then using your onboard water pump, pump the water through then entire system. Don’t forget the water heater. Let it set for 3 or 4 hours then drain that water and refill with fresh water. Any left over smell of Clorox will go away in a few days. Good luck.
Ask away with any questions no matter how small it may seem to you. There are no dumb questions. If you don’t know the answer, it is not dumb to ask. All we ask is that you start a new post for each question.

Thanks for the detailed response - I believe our tires are original :( we knew when we bought it that we would need to replace them and budgeted into the purchase. We will get those changed before our first little trip. I really don't want to be working out how to change an RV tire on the edge of the highway.

\I'll keep those things in mind when we start on the plumbing system. Also good to know the best way to ask questions :)
Just beware, not everyone offering help knows what they're doing.
Good to know!
