Towing from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia in July

1st time camping out of USA. Wife and I are towing 30' East to West. Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia. Taking ferry back in July. Any tips or advise?

We enjoyed Campobello, Eastport, Digby, Mahone Bay, among other places.
Getting into Canada is easy. Getting back in to the US can be difficult. Be well prepared about what you can and cannot bring into the US.

You will need your passports when you return to the US. Cananda don't care but the current US Border folks require it. You may also have an inspection by the US agriculture department when returning to the US. We especially enjoyed our time in Halifax & Cape Breton. I suggest that you look over this website for other things to see and places to visit.

Be aware of what and the quantity you can transport into Canada, and do not fail to declare all excess to the limit. Sounds serious, and it is if discovered deceiving the CA border guards.

Food, plant and animal inspections

Canadian law requires that you declare all food, plants and animals and related products that you are bringing into Canada. If you do not declare your products, the CBSA could confiscate them and you could face monetary penalties, and/or prosecution.

Be honest and respectful of border agents. Answer their questions clearly. Disclose any firearms that you have with you. Make sure you have current vaccine papers for any pets traveling with you. Know that some states are concerned about what vegetables and fruits you are bringing back into the country.

Do not take firearms. Canada has very strict laws about them. Do not take live plants especially if they're planted in dirt. As noted above, be respectful but at the same time do not offer information. Answer questions with a simple yes or no if possible. We've been to Canada several times and are about to head out for another trip starting in Deer Isle Maine up through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and then to Prince Edward Island. Will be taking the ferry across to PEI and the bridge back to head south again. If you are taking a ferry, be sure to make advanced reservations and get there at least an hour before sailing time. They do have length and height restrictions so be sure to check those out. We are towing a Jayco 19 MRK with a Toyota Tundra and that is right on the edge in terms of length.

Remember the dog. Updated vaccinations and to return, must be chipped. That said, they did not check when we came back in!

Number one tip!

And, disclose truthfully any alcohol you are bringing into Canada. If they board your trailer, hardly a chance, but if they find bottles upon bottles of wine or bourbon not disclosed, they'll pour it out in front of you. As told to me by a Canadian Border Patrol Agent as a P.S. after he gave me back our I.D. and I was ready to pull away. Addressing the Agents on both sides of the border as Sir or Ma'am helps too, along with taking off hats and sunglasses.

If you have an Enhanced Driver's license, passengers too, you do not need passports. Technically speaking, no law requires passports to cross into Canada, nor a return to the United States. But on the U.S. side, you'll have a heckuva time without the EDL or passport, especially towing an RV.
