Let me see if you'all schoooled me right.... 2005 Dodge Quad Cab  4x4 Short Bed  CTD  Auto 4.10 gears

Truck with full load of fuel  with junk in tool box    7200
                              Wife and Daughter            240
                              Total truck                    7420

                                GCWR                      20000
                            Towing Capacity              13100
Actual total towing capacity of trailer and gear    12580

Is the fifth wheel pin weight 10% of the towing weight?

I'm gonna forget the 10% rule as I'm in flat FL/AL

PS I'm guessing the weight of the 5th wheel tow hitch and my tool box will be a wash.

Thanks

Got that right!

Is the fifth wheel pin weight 10% of the towing weight?

No, not the "towing weight", if by that you mean the rated towing capacity.  It is in the range of 12-25% of the actual loaded trailer weight. It's in the 12-17% range for a travel trailer and 15-25% for a fifth wheel.

Yeah, you can ignore the 10% safety margin with your CTD in the flatlands. Or most anywhere else with that chassis.
