Hi is it okay to tow a 2016 jeep wrangler as to the WEIGHT with our 2016 merecedese winnebago profile Thanks
 
I googled "2016 winnebago profile" and came up with 8 variations. Which one do you have?

Curb weight of 4door wrangler is noted to weight from 4167 pounds to 5200 pounds. Which one do you have?

  • GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating): 15,250 lbs

We have 2 TOAD cars a 2,300 pound Toyota Yaris and a 4,300 pound Jeep Cherokee that we tow behind our 28 ft Class A Safari Trek which has a 5,000 pound tow rating. While it can tow both of them, there is a WORLD of difference, with the Yaris I have to keep the rear view camera on to know it is still back there, with the Cherokee there is never any doubt and it probably drops my comfortable max driving speed by 5 - 10 mph.
 
Given the GVWR/GCWR that Kirk quotes, I'd say you are pushing the limits with your Jeep. That size motorhome is typically loaded right to its max (GVWR) because the CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity) is rather small. Check the label (probably on the driver door post) or better yet take it to a scale and get the actual.
Assuming the coach is loaded to the 11,030 lb max, adding the 4167 lb Jeep comes to 15, 197 lbs (almost the 15,250 GCWR limit). And you know the Jeep is gonna weigh at least a few lbs more than the Curb Weight on the spec sheet.

So you most likely are barely ok. You will notice that acceleration is slower, the stopping distance longer, and maybe strong winds will push it around more than a lighter toad. Wear & tear will be on the high side too, but the hitch shouldn't fall off.
 
Any toad, make sure you install a braking system. Especially with a motorhome already carrying close to it's maximum GVWR weight, you don't want to add the load of stopping the toad to brakes already pushing their limits.
 
Thanks all we travel light and will not have anything in the Jeep...my wife is 108 lbs and I am 162.. loll

The scales will tell you that. As Gary noted, you are on the ragged edge of max weights. Even if you have nothing in the Jeep, it will be heavier than you think, you have the towbar, and the brake system adding weight. You have no real clue as to weights until you weigh the rig. $12 or so at the CAT scale. You should be able to weigh both the MH and the Jeep together, front axle on platform #1, back axle on platform #2, and the entire Jeep on platform #3.

Study up on the towing procedure for the Jeep, that one is old enough it may not have any real quirks, but the owners manual will tell you what you need to know.

If you have the weight capacity it IS, generally, the best/easiest setup that's common today, given that so few vehicles are now towable 4 down. But when you're looking to tow with such a low capacity rig, you have to be very careful in your choice.

For some values of "best" it may well be, but my definition of "best" is that which most closely fits my needs. That includes a host of factors, such as comfort, budget, safety, reliability, and not just some textbook towability ideal.

That said, if you already own the Wrangler I don't think it is far enough over the towing specs to change vehicles for that reason alone. Realistically, a 100 lbs more or less than the GCWR isn't a big deal. But if you haven't bought it yet, I'd be looking for a toad that is 500+ lbs lighter and thus be well under the GCWR. Given the scarcity of 4-down towable vehicles in the last 10 years, that may be difficult to find. Looking at the Dinghy Tow Guides back to 2015, I don't see much in the 3500 lb & under range. So maybe the Wrangler is as good a choice as you are gonna get.
 
I agree with Gary... If you already own it at least check out the weights and see how close you are to the weight limits.. If you don't own it, do you want/need a 4wd vehicle?,, The are almost always heavier the a 2wd in the same vehicle... In my case I did want 4wd but went with a much older (1986) and lighter (2100#) Suzuki Samurai... But I don't get a very refined vehicle... And it is OLD. ;).. Suzuki/GMC did mace some later, more refined, but light weight 4wd vehicles, that are great TOADS... All of this is moot if you don't need the 4wd...

Thats the issue could not find an alternative. Yes have purchased a Wrangler...I am changing from sports off road tires to regular lighter weight tires.
