A little modification to the base of the handrail mounting and it can be made to not lock you in. A little bit of cutting or filing on the base (got to be careful though as the base is hollow honeycomb design) and you can fix it to where it cannot stop the door.
However, for me, folding the handrail over the door for travel is a secondary lock for myself and many others. My door uses a pneumatic cylinder to hold the door open so if it were to pop open, and not restrained, it would stick straight out

If you look closely at the handrail locking slots, the ones when it is in the stored position are shallower than the one when in use. I can pull straight out on mine without lifting it and it releases.

I don’t worry about someone trying to lock me in. If it did happen and there was a fire no way that lil handrail going to keep door from opening.
