Trailer brakes work but controller says not connected?

I have a Tekonsha prodigy p2 installed in my Winnebago on a 2002 E350 super duty chassis…
The trailer brakes are working and engage when I press the brake pedal but for some reason the brake controller says “n.c” (not connected).
The weird thing is that when I use the manual override lever on the brake controller, it also engages the brakes.
Anyone have any idea what’s going on here?

I'd start by checking the ground wire on the trailer plug. The brakes can still work if there is an adequate ground through the trailer ball coupler, but the Prodigy might be unhappy if there is no ground wire connection via the plug.

A question: Is this a new problem or has it always been that way since the P2 was installed (or maybe since you had this trailer)? The P2 is rather fussy about all the wire connections being correct and no shorts or crappy connections via the trailer plug.

Also, look at the wire connections at the brakes. These can become loose, or corroded, and again, the brakes will work  somewhat but not properly. The controller sends a weak signal down the circuit looking for the brake magnets, and with any bad connection, it may not see the brakes.

Check the 7 pin plugs. Both of them. A little corrosion or loose connections may be causing the error.
