I have a 2005 Winnebago 36' coach with the 8.1 Workhorse engine and the 5 speed Allison transmission. The coach has the Banks system installed. The coach currently has 55,000 miles. When I bought the coach a year ago I had everything serviced including the transmission. Allison did the transmission service. It has had a whine since I bought it and mentioned this to Allison when they serviced it. They found nothing wrong. I've put 10,000 miles on it since purchasing with no issues but am still concerned about the whine.

Any thoughts or experience with this? I don't want to create an issue if none exists, but I don't want to be stuck somewhere with transmission failure either.

Thanks for your help.

My Monaco LaPalma has had a small whine since I bought it new in 2004. At 92,000 miles now and it's still there with no problems.

I'm not sure if it's the transmission or rear end and, in any case, really isn't that loud. You also have to listen hard to hear it.

Did they put Transynd transmission fluid in when they serviced it and did they change the spin-on fluid filter?

Sorry, I'm not sure what transmission fluid they used. I assume what is approved by Allison.

Allison "approves" of both natural and synthetic fluids, but the TES-295 synthetic is strongly recommended. Takes either 7 or 10 qts (depends on the pan configured) with a filter, so $165 is barely enough to cover the cost of the synesthetic Transynd @ $50 per gallon (shop prices).  If they used regular Dexron III, that shouldn't make it whine, but it would mean that another change will be due in a year or so.

OK, whether they ( Allison) used synthetic or not, what about the whine sound I am getting? Is this a non issue or should I persue it? We are planning a NW trip in about 3 weeks and I really don't want an issue when we are out on the road. Should I go back to Allison and have them look again or leave and not worry too much?
