After reading Kevin's recent thread regarding his potentially catastrophic 50 amp cord failure, I checked the Library to see if any of the many checklists addressed this potentially deadly condition.  Most of the checklists including the PDI and pre-trip lists, don't get into this level of detail.  Sorry If I missed the one(s) that did.  So unless there is one that addresses this and similar risks, maybe we should put our collective heads together and create a new one.

Maybe not a "travel" checklist, but a monthly checklist maybe.  It could be an add on to an existing checklist of even an annual maintenance item.  Not a common problem, but one that should be addressed at least occasionally  for sure.

When we bought our Pace Arrow, the propane tank had a leak.  The location of the leak was the plug that screws into the tank to register the level of propane in the tank.  The propane gauge is attached to the plug.  Occasionally we would smell propane when opening the bay that houses the propane tank.  It was likely an ongoing problem since both the original owner and second owners replaced the regulator.  We also replaced the regulator and thought we finally fixed the problem.  But it continued to leak and the leak was significant based on how much propane we were going through.

I discovered the leak when I sprayed soapy water on the plug.  It's an unusual source of a leak so my guess is most service facilities don't check it.  It's also not an easy fix.  The tank must be drained, removed before the plug can be removed and reinserted.  At least that's what we were told and that's what was done.  The total cost for the service about $400.00.  The repair was made in January and so far we haven't noticed any propane smell.  Still, it's part of my regular inspection.
