Travelling with Ripe Tomatoes

Just before we left Oregon, I was hesitating about buying ripe tomatoes at the farmer's market because I didn't want them to get bruised while we were on the road.  An RVing friend said she put her ripe tomatoes in coffee mugs to protect them.  It worked!  Turns out it is also a good way to travel with ripe avocados.

Nice tip! Thanks for sharing Jeannine.

I have found that keeping my bag of red potatoes in a disposable metal tray and sit them in the microwave for storage and travel is a great idea. The tray is bendable to fit in the microwave and it also keeps the dirt from the potato bag from getting everywhere and the buggy critters away from the potatoes. Of course, one must remove the metal tray and potatoes before using the microwave. It?s sad we all have to add disclaimers nowadays. Lol
