Glan Williams was a friend, co-worker and fellow fisherman of the River Afan in south Wales. Glan was also the long-time president of the Afan Valley Angling Club. He was relentless in his efforts to maintain the fishery, fighting many battles with authorities and coal mines that, at one time, used to wash coal in Afan waters. It was thanks to Glan's lifetime efforts that coal washing was eliminated, the river cleaned up, and salmon were successfully reintroduced to the river.
When Glan sadly passed away in 1988, the Angling Club put up this streamside monument as a fitting tribute.
