Does anyone know the clearance heights for the tunnels on US 441 between Cherokee and Gatlinburg?  I've got a motor home that is 12 feet high and planning a trip there this summer.  Can I get thru, or do I have to plan a long way around?

TexasH,

I found this on the web,and it looks like they rebuilt the tunnels back in '01. But if your only 12' you should not have a problem.

And this site seems to be an excellent reference for truckers;http://www.aitaonline.com/Info/Low%20Clearances.html

Thanks Kenneth!  That makes me feel better about crossing the Mountains.  Also, thanks for the link to others. I'll file that away for future reference.  The Blue Ridge Parkway website has a list of tunnels and their heights, but I could not find anything on the Smokies.  (there are three tunnels under 12 feet on the southern end of the Parkway!)

Thanks Again!!!

If you are coming from Cherokee, you will have a long steep decent.  Check your breaks and gear down.  If going from Gatlinburg to Cherokee, well, you get to climb a long way.

Have fun
