Are DSL modems universally the same, so if I have a DSL modem now and I move to another place where the provider is different, can I use the same modem?

Steve,

To answer your question, MOST of the time.  What you would have to do is contact the internet service provider (ISP) in that area and they will ask you general questions about your modem and be able to tell you.  Same thing goes for cable modems, I have used the same one for about two years now with different ISPs.

Thanks for the info, Sean!  I guess the owners manual would provide theinformation I would need to relay, right?

No problem Steve.  The owner's manual should have all of the technical specs for the modem but most of the time all the ISP will need is the make and model to tell you if it will work or not, good luck.
