The guys who originally errected this milestone had genuine horsepower to pull their carriages.

Anyone else have photos of unusual milemarkers or road signs?

We ran across this road sign while driving around the small island of Miscou in the Maritime Provinces.

Tom, from the mid 20's thru 1963 the Burma Shave road signs were very popular. I was a fifties kid and can remember them with fond memories. Most roads were 2 lane and cars went slow enough to read them. If anyone does not know of or remember them, here's one of many sites that tells their story -- and how a $200.00 up front advertising budget become one of the most successful of all times.

Here's a few from when I was in Boston last year.  The three actual "Mile Markers" are on the road the British marched on to Lexington and Concord on their way to the Revolutionary War.  Such a historic place, something I highly highly recommend to everyone.
