Kevin and I took a drive to Quartzsite n Sunday to check out the construction. Lots of changes! The roads into all the visitor areas seem to be only gravel; the dreadful, rutted, potholed asphalt is gone. It will be much easier for the BLM to maintain. The rough map shows what we found. Our “old” campsite is a small red dot. The new dump lanes are roughed in at Tyson wash. They are just off the main road where the larger black lines are. The new water stations are beyond the dump lanes and shown in blue oval area. The sewage lagoons (two very large ones) are about where the yellow circles are. The new well and storage tank is across Old Yuma Road about where the small blue circle is. My recommendation for this winter’s Quartzsite get-together is to take the “main” road through Tyson Wash, past the new facilities, turn left on Old Yuma Road, and then left at the first big area. The access is good even for big rigs. Lots of space between there and the free Roadrunner area farther south. More info and details will surely come from others, but I thought I would let folks know what we found.
Edit to add the dump stations in La Posa South are scheduled to be removed, but they were still operating yesterday. I understand the water spigots there will remain, but the septic tanks there have been out of environmental compliance for many years.
