A member asked about towing a 20 foot, 3,500 lb travel trailer with a Jeep Grand Cherokee from I-80 at Rock Springs, Wyoming to Jensen, Utah near Dinosaur National Park via US 191, and whether there are easier routes. Members who had driven the area generally said the road is good and doable with a capable setup, but noted some steep grades, especially north of Vernal and around the Flaming Gorge area.

Several RVers mentioned that the route through Manila may be a better trailer option...

Any easier routes?

Tow vehicle?

I will be interested to hear what others have to say. I've looked at that route several times on the map and really don't think its an issue for me, but would be interested to hear if there are any issues.

I just wanted to know you have a capable rig for the trip, which you do. I have edited my above posts with links to videos that may be useful.

We have done it and it is fine. There are a few steep sections but good road.

Alternate goes round the other side of Gorge but I need to check what it was like with Steve. I'm fairly sure it was OK though.

I'll report back tomorrow.

We did it in April. Vernal to Rock Springs towing our Wrangler. The hardest part was the new road 25+ miles north of Vernal. Wasn't prepared for the steep grade. Had to pull over and let the motorhome engine cool down. Once we were past the dam and heading to Rock Springs the road was good but some of the large trucks were going crazy fast. One time I was a bit concerned when an 18 wheeler was almost over the yellow line on a curve. If he continued to head into my lane, I wouldn't be writing this post. My wife was following me and had the same concern. Aside from that, a beautiful drive. Make sure your trailer brakes are working. Many hills are quite steep.

Hi, made the trip on 191..good road .. only a few steep sections and switchbacks…tks for all the feedback
