When I called Max Amp RV before purchasing, it was recommended to use an old circular saw blade as a ground plane.  Techincally, I can make that work but was wondering about the long term effects on the roof compound from rust.

Was wondering if anyone has lightly coated the blade with the DICOR after getting it in place for weather-proofing?

Or just paint it.

When I needed to make a ground plane for an antenna that lacked its own, I used a piece of galvanized sheet I had lying around and used Dicor around the edges.  It's just a reflector for radio signals.

Like Gary, I used a scrap piece of steel sheet I had laying around. I painted it and sealed the edges with Dicor after installing it. I mounted the piece for the Max Amp antenna on top of the rear A/C shroud with self taping screws, and mounted another painted piece at the front of the coach roof for another mag mount with 3M double sided trim tape. It's the same stuff car makers use to install trim pieces instead of using clips.

I would give the blade a good coating of rust control paint, all surfaces.  then if you wish set it in Dicor and coat it with the same. But start with a good (NOT Rust-o-leum) rust control enamel.. ACME is a good brand (Sherman Williams).

Use a dull blade.

Gord replied back to paint as well.  Got the job completed this afternoon after the roof was in shade to inspect last night's DICOR efforts.
I opted to not paint the circle where the antenna was in contact with the blade, but did DICOR the heck out of the base to blade interface.

Thanks all!
