I have been a drummer my entire life, starting drum lessons a very early age. I thought I knew just about everything there is to know about drum manufacturers until yesterday. I was watching a most excellent video on Amazon Prime about James Brown:

https://www.amazon.com/James-Brown-Mr-Dynamite-Rise/dp/B07ZG5HYM4/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=james+brown&qid=1612468221&s=movies-tv&sr=1-2

And in the video he had several drummers in his group (up to five) and all were playing kits with the Vox logo on the front of the bass drum. Not much else could I tell about the drums from the video, but I had never heard of Vox Drums. That seemed impossible to me. I thought maybe they made the drum heads only. Well a quick search proved me wrong, Vox did make drum sets in the 60s but they didn't sell well. However I noticed that the bass drum on one of their kits looked like a flat tire. Huh what is up with that? Turns out it was designed to accept two bass drum pedals on one drum. The drum had baffling inside to provide two distinctly different tones. Well I have heard of stupid ideas in my time but this one took the cake. Here is a bit of the story of Vox Drums:
