Do not listen if you don't want to have this stuck in your head today.:p I guess its to be expected and happens a fair amount when you are old and your music library refuses to listen to some of the crap thats called modern music now.

I prefer this one but then I really liked Down Periscope which I watch about twice a year.

I didn't even have to watch the video and the YMCA song is already bouncing in my head.

Some things are just permanently etched in memory!

The Lyrics:

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town There's no need to be unhappy
Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough You can stay there and I'm sure you will find Many ways to have a good time

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

They have everything
For young men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

You can get yourself clean
You can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams

But you've got to know this one thing
No man, does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
And just go there, to the Y.M.C.A.
I'm sure they can help you today

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

They have everything for young men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

You can get yourself clean
You can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel

Young man, I was once in your shoes
I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt, no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so jive
That's when someone came up to me
And said, young man, take a walk up the street

There's a place there called the Y.M.C.A.
They can't stop you back on your way

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

For young men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys
Y.M.C.A.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
Young man, young man
Are you listening to me?
Young man, young man
What do you want to be?
Y.M.C.A.
You buy in at the
Y.M.C.A.
Young man, young man
Does it all by himself
Young man, young man
Put your pride on the shelf
Y.M.C.A.
And just go to the
Y.M.C.A
Young man, young man, I was once in your shoes
Young man, young man, I was down with blues
Y.M.C.A

For years the Chelsea Y was my go to for a cheap work out and the best eucalyptus steam sauna, it had a cold shower in the steam room so you could stay in longer.

Different but along the same lines.......

I'm not much for music except for classical, but this was played alot when Pharrell Wiliams first came out with it, and it has always stuck with me.

Re: YMCA: In 1978, my family went to Vancouver, BC to set up a celebration for my grandparent's 50th anniversary (my mom is Canadian). I hung out with my cousins while there, and everywhere we went they were playing Village People music. After 3 or 4 days I finally asked, "Don't you guys get tired of hearing the same songs on the radio and juke boxes all the time?" They said, "Oh, they're the latest group to hit the charts." I told them that the Village People had come and gone from the charts, at least in N. California, about 3 or 4 years prior. They were shocked that their music was so far behind.

This is what has been sticking in my head lately. Not sure why, the words make no sense, IMO, and when a large orchestra is being used, it is a form of cheating (IMO).

A nice thing about my Tesla is I can use my voice for it to play any song I wish such as "Play MacArthur Park". Or play "Richard Harris":

But the most important thing is the melody. The words do not have to make sense for it to get stuck in our heads.

Who can make sense out of MOST of this?

The lyrics to above:

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no
There would be another song for me
For I will sing it
There would be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
Oh, after all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you and wondering why
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
(Oh no)
(Oh no)

Years ago when my wife and I were still in the corporate world part of her responsibilities were to approve the plan and budgeting for national conferences of the company. One act that her organization booked was The Village People. Got to go to a few conferences where TVP performed. They were always a big hit and we got to go backstage and meet them. The group had undergone various member changes but the act remained the same. They were all really nice guys and we had a great time meeting them.

Back in the day McArthur's Park and Marty Robbins' El Paso were my two favorite go-to songs during my brief tenure as a radio disc jockey (spoiler - I was terrible at it). Most of the time I was all alone at the radio station so I'd start one or the other and then run across the street to the local hamburger joint and grab a burger and fries, then run back to the control room before the record ran out. Most of the time it worked. Sometimes it didn't.

Back in those days, I often felt something like that was going on when the extra-long ones were played.

Here is what you needed, more than 17 minutes and the best part is you did NOT have to listen to it. :D
