Water Pump Location

The pump is almost always very close to the potable water tank. If you locate the tank, then turn the pump on and follow the sound. Of course, that only works if the pump is working. If it has failed, visual is probably the only way.
 
I swear ours is mounted to a sounding board? How about pressure tanks to have it run less often?
The pumps usually have rubber shock mounts but if yours doesn't you can manufacture some of them and that will help. It also is probably connected directly to the PEX plumbing and causes that to vibrate. You can help that by installing some flexible connections between the pump and the water connections. To have it run less, install an accumulator tank on the output of the pump.
