Water Softner and Truma On Demand Hot Water Heater

Hello,
We have the Truma Aqua Pro hot water heater in our DRV Mobile Suite. We also use the on On the Go Water Softener. Every time we add salt and flush the softener it throws the hot water heater into service mode. Any suggestions?

Take the water softener out of the equation?

Turn off the Truma first. Close gas valve or turn off electrical switch.
