We got CARB'd today

But does every county in CA now require a smog test? IOW, every ICE car in the entire state with a CA plate?

I have no idea, but you could check the CA DMV web site.

Curiosity got the better of me. Do I see a typo in the attached?

LOL.

According to that document, if you weigh MORE than 14,000 pounds, you don’t need to test. Tom…go get your money back! 😂

All this nonsense is yet another great reason to live anywhere except California. Way too much government control and accompanying incompetence, as evidenced by the document in the previous post.

Finally CARB compliant! Attached - partial screen shots of our record in the CARB database and the compliance certificate. Now I need to get the 6 months re-test issue resolved.

Gotta love Cali.

I can't speak for your situation, but I do know that years ago Colorado started catching up with people who bought and registered their coaches in Montana to avoid Colorado Sales and Registration taxes, with court action/big fines the result. I heard that some other states did the same.

So the states aren't generally ignorant of people pulling such dodges- YMMV...
One reason why 500K folks a year are leaving CA. And, many are moving to Colorado and bringing the same kind of nonsense to that state.

We've acquired a fair share of Californians in the N. Texas area mainly due to corporate relocations. I can't tell them from anyone else.

Just realized you're motor-homelsss. ;)

Looked at a reg and couldn't tell if all diesels are subject to the CARB reg. or only model years 2010 and newer. Then I thought I saw that motorhomes weren't even included. Since you mentioned having your Camelot checked, I guess it at least applies to newer coaches. Since I've been looking for a new(er) diesel, if pre-2010, are exempt, that's what I'll look for. Then again when I look in the mirror and see an old man looking back at me, I think, maybe just keep the Pace.

We're actually not. Still have the DP in covered storage.

It's been a while since I researched the rules, but just know that our 2003 DP is subject to CARB, and I recently received an email letting me know I'd soon be out of compliance (again).

Hopefully this will be rescinded if the federal smog guidelines become nationwide.

Our rig travels less than 3000 miles a year on average. What's the point?

California has always had standards tougher than the Fed's So I don't know.
That said. the future is very hard to predict.

And I understand it does help with the most populated state, saves lives by reducing air pollution.

And it is not all bad when compared to here in NV. For example, here in the Reno area, every car, RV, etc. (except motorcycles & EVs, of course) must be smogged every year. CA is every two years.

I wonder when CA will start requiring a smog test for ICE motorcycles. Makes no difference to me because all my ICE motorcycles have a NV plate--unless such ideas spread to NV.

There's a thread on irv2.com with current information and it appears to be updated continually.

AFAIK Diesel motor homes have to be smogged yearly now. OTR trucks every 6 months.
Russ, our DP was CARB aka smog tested in April this year, and I've recently received notice that I'd be out of compliance and require re-testing in Oct this year.

I recall previously seeing mention of annual testing for motorhomes, but CARB let me know it was every 6 months for vehicle over 14,000 lbs. Separately, their definition of which vehicles required CARB said:

"Clean Truck Check applies to nearly all diesel and alternative fuel heavy-duty vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds that operate on California public roads. This includes both in-state and out-of-state vehicles, as well as public vehicles (federal, state, and local government); motorcoaches; transit, shuttle and school buses; hybrid vehicles; commercial vehicles; personal vehicles; California registered motorhomes; single vehicle fleets; and vehicles registered outside of California (not including motorhomes)."

Some time after our DP was smogged, a friend who participates on the Tiffin forum reported discussion that, based on discussion over there, the smog requirement no longer applied to motorhomes. He subsequently reported it was incorrect info, and had his Tiffin DP smogged.

Does anyone here remember what the sky looked like in LA in the sixties? We went there in 1966 when I was 9 and even at that age I never forgot how dirty the air was when the wind didn't blow, at times the sun looked like it was covered with a giant dark sunglass lens or a cloud of heavy dust.
