This favorite Welsh snack has a very simple recipe:

  • Toast one side of a slice of bread under the grill.
  • Turn the bread over and add cheese (the original recipe calls for goat's cheese, but almost any cheese will work).
  • Grill until the cheese melts.
  • For added flavopr, add slices of tomato just before the cheese has melted.
  • Some folks add a little Worcester sauce.

Enjoy!

Put another slice of bread on that and you have a

Grilled cheese sandwich :D

LOL Ned, but only if you toast the second piece of bread  ;D

Then spead some strawberry jam over the top of that grilled cheese sandwich and you have a real treat.  Add peanut butter for even a better treat.

Gee Ron, you and Ned sure know how to contaminate a recipe.

BTW the subject of this topic is eaten with a knife and fork, not eaten like a hamburger  ;D

It sounds like finger food to me, Tom :)  I like grilled peanut butter too.

Not contaminate its improve with additional ingredients.

BTW fingers were around a long time before the knife and fork. ;D ;D

Well, I was trying to introduce a little dining etiquette, but I see that's wasted on the "just stuff it your mouth" folks  ;D

Tom,

You've been to enough rallies to know better :)

LOL Ned. I'll tell Chris to serve Scotch eggs, but not Welsh rarebit at the next potluck.

Ned, I think Bernie is saying he'll follow etiquette.

Amen to that Bob.

Tom,

You grossly simplified the recipe.  A Google search on "Welsh rarebit" turned up dozens of recipes with quite a range of variety in them.  None are as simple as cheese on toast, however :)

They all look delicious.

The only thing I really left out of the "authentic" recipe was the tomatoes on top. Some folks add Worcester sauce, but that disguises the taste.
