What are your 4th of July plans?

Just thought I would start a thread to discuss the 4th and to camp or not to camp.

We are first time 4th of July campers this year.  We usually avoid the busy times but this year made plans for the Big Three (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day).  Heading to what is usually a nice FS campground by Red Lodge MT.  The town has three days of parades and rodeo - not sure we'll take any of that in.  But I'm definitely in need of a few days vacation and am looking forward to doing nothing (or something I get to choose).

". . . looking forward to doing nothing (or something I get to choose)."

Right on, k.  Great attitude and I'm right there with ya.  We also usually avoid the "big" holidays for camping and will skip going out on the 4th this year, though we always go out over Thanksgiving.

To answer your question it's going to be just me and my sweet bride at the old homestead, some movies, grilling out, some ice cold beverages, and lots of SNAPS.  :)

Y'all enjoy and be safe.

I depart on July 5 for my summer travels. Off to The Rubicon Trail, then to Ridgeway State Park outside Ouray, CO for a few weeks then down to Montrose CO for a couple of weeks, Spearfish, SD; Moab, UT; Kanab. UT; St. George, UT and then home on November 4.

We're leaving VT and heading to a NY State Park campground that we like near our granddaughter's house in a couple of days, and will stay there for the following 10 days. We like the state park campgrounds for the time around the 4th because they don't allow fireworks. Even the area around our Adirondack cottage has gotten too explosives happy for the 4th.

Nice!  Man, I dream of the day . . .

My first, well second year of traveling for longer than a couple of weeks. I like it!

We're taking our fur-kids to a place where there are no fireworks.  This has been our priority for at least 8 years.

We are returning on 7/3 from our first trip in our "new" to us camper and hosting the family for a 4th get together!  We also try to avoid the busy times of the year for doing anything!!!!!

We are staying home to avoid all the nuts out there. Last night, they started celebrating early. 10:30 last night they were shooting off fireworks. It ended around 11:15. I won't put up with that much longer.  Lucky for us, they're down the road about 1500 feet and all our windows were closed.  I feel for the neighbors right next to them.

I really dislike the fireworks too. We have a couple neighbors and they just built a boatload of new homes in our Rural Preservation Area, so I am sure that the "fun" will be even more bothersome this year.

We love camping Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends but normally stay put for Independence Day. Between trying to get vacation time and many (non-state) campgrounds requiring anywhere from 3 - 5 day stays, it's not worth it to us. But every year one of my cousins has a picnic at his house. Many of the cousins in my generation have started to move away from Rome NY where we all grew up but most still come back for this little reunion each year so it's nice to see everyone.

It's not that I dislike fireworks it's the hours they shoot them off. There has to be a reasonable quiet time.

We?ve been heading westward across northern Michigan and Wisconsin every 2 or 3 days and completely forgot about the 4th coming up. We all the sudden needed to find a place to stay for a week or longer in order to get some packages. That?s when I realized the holiday was next week!! Almost every campground in a days drive is full. We finally found one near Minneapolis that really wasn?t on our planned travel route but we took it and decided we would check out some things in that part of the state!

We head out July 5th for ten days in Virginia. I made reservations in October for the state park where we're spending a couple of nights. Didn't want to take any chances with the holiday.

Here also, Rene.  Clowns.  Like you, I don't dislike fireworks, but place and time, folks!

We're heading up the road to Centerville, TX with our old Ford to participate in their Parade and Car show.  Then in the evening we will go over to the George H W Bush Presidential library to see the Fireworks display.  We always enjoy the celebrations in our area.  We generally try to avoid overnight travel around Holidays.

Centerville used to kick our butts every year in football back in the late 70s early 80s -hated playing those corn-fed giants.  LOL

Cen-Tex used to have some great fireworks shows.  Enjoy!

I flatly dislike explosive fireworks.

I agree with avoiding crowds.  Hopefully at our forest service site people will be well behaved.  Rules are no fireworks.  It's a relatively quiet campground normally.

I love fireworks shows - big displays.  I "ooh" and "aah" on cue and thoroughly enjoy myself.  What I don't like are the booms and bangs at odd times of night.
