I have a daughter who works for Amazon in HR, great first job out of college, lol.  She was excited that she got an email directly from Bezos, as did all the employees.  So, what is he up to?

Well, he personally owns a company he founded called Blue Origin, and plans to make space travel affordable (at least for the rich).  He is stepping aside as CEO of Amazon to spend more time with Blue Origin.

Interesting company to follow if it goes public.  Sounds like he does not plan to let Elon Musk have all the fun.

I hope he is not the one involved with that one that just crashed on return.
Thankfully there was no people on it and it is still in the testing stage

Nope. The Starship that crashed yesterday was from SpaceX (Elon Musk's company), and watching the video* everything was "nominal" until just a few seconds before the crash. Surprisingly, to some, they were actually pretty happy with its performance, and said that they'll soon perfect that landing (it's a very difficult thing to do). That test unit doesn't even have its full complement of engines (only three), and is actually intended to be a second stage for a later heavy lifter.

"Being the CEO of Amazon is a deep responsibility, and it's consuming," Bezos wrote. "When you have a responsibility like that, it's hard to put attention on anything else. As Exec Chair I will stay engaged in important Amazon initiatives but also have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions. I've never had more energy, and this isn't about retiring. I'm super passionate about the impact I think these organizations can have."

Hey he just spent billions to rid himself of his wife and is involved with a new hottie.  He likely just want to enjoy the new life, until he tires of her.

The test flight yesterday was a 90% success, even if it would have mad the landing it never would have flown again, it just would have made collecting data on how things performed to be a bit easier.  The fault seems to have been one of the engines failed to re-light for landing.  This was a very different failure than the one that they crashed last month, as on that one the second engine did relight for landing, then failed due to a low fuel pressure issue a few seconds before landing.

I was hoping he might take his hands out of the Post.  As much as I would like to hate Amazon, it is a real benefit to thse of us not near big stores.  I still try to buy local when I can though.
