What kind of sealant is used around clearance lights tail lights etc? My RV has some sort of clear sealant that could stand some touching up but I want to be sure to use the right stuff.

The type and brand really aren't critical as long as it is an exterior use, non-sag sealant, and you probably want clear rather than a color. Fleetwood used Geocel MHRV 2300 for many years - maybe they still do. Geocel Proflex RV is almost the same and would be fine too. Dicor's 351 CSCL-1 Non-Sag is another but maybe harder to find. Plain old silicone is another good choice. Yes, I know it is sacrilege to say so, but this is one of the places where it's appropriate.

" Dicor's 351 CSCL-1 Non-Sag "

And it's on sale at Amazon. Good stuff.

I mask around stuff like lights, so it looks better when done. I have found that a syringe works well to put out a smaller amount of the sealant. I use GeoCel Proflex for most things now, black as the white gets dirty looking real quick and will not clean off.

I thought of the syringe as the ladder was in the way of using the large caulk gun. I intend to get some fine line masking tape at the auto paint store, to do smooth curves. I'm replacing the old white fixtures that have yellowed, with identical black ones.

If they used silicone you need to remove the old silicone before you add new, but in such applications that should not be that difficult and silicone does last for a long time with little or no maintenance. Some newer silicone products can be touched up but if I were you, I'd remove all of the old first, just to be sure. Nothing will stick well to the old style silicone sealants, not even more of the same product. And I do use silicone for that sort of application and have for years.

I seal around my marker lights with Permatex RTV clear silicone seal and adhesive. There is no need to use Dicor, most commonly used for sealing joints around rubber-type roofs. The RTV part is it is quick-drying, thicker, and not as runny as some other liquid silicone products.

This is a great all-around sealant and adhesive and I always keep a tube in my RV tool kit.
