I thought i would try to make a boating whirligig for the front yard here at the lake.    But im not sure what materials i need.

I have a skill saw and a jig saw but other than that its all hand tools.

Is there a special wood used and what do you use for the spinning rod?

Do most hobby stores have whirligig stuff?

PS...  I am no artist, i cant draw anything, i have zero talent in that area.

Amazon sells plans and it may give you some idea on how to step forward.

And depending on how serious you want to get:

I remember an old episode of "The Woodwright's Shop" about whirly gigs... or maybe it was this old house.....
nah, pretty sure it was Roy Underhill.  Maybe you could find it online.
