I've been looking for an exact part for over 1 year now... if you have one I can buy I'll pay $500 extra reward on top of the price of the item. If you can tell me the exact part brand/model and don't have one for sale, I'll pay $100.

I am building a painting easel like the one in the photos below. The part in question is the side support with the wingnut. The original artist says he "thinks its an RV window stay" but has no other details.

I have googled and called around for 1 going on 2 years now, with no luck.

I am well aware of the 90000 other types of window stays. They won't work, otherwise I would have gotten one a long time ago. (I'm writing this because whenever I ask this question people will link to random google links of things that aren't the same, as if I'm unaware they exist).

I'm specifically looking for...
  • someone who has the exact item for sale
  • someone who can tell me the exact make/model of the part

Thanks!!

Btw he also said it could have been camper curtain rail, not window stay (sorry got info mixed up)

It's definitely crossed my mind, but to build 1 part the price is usually exorbitantly expensive :/

No way it would be over $500. OK your in CA. Maybe $1000 :ROFLMAO:
Hmmmm... do you have any referrals for someone good and trustworthy? I've tried calling places around where I live, it's mostly for big machinery and whatnot. I feel like I just need an individual "guy" who has a workshop.

That is not a complicated assembly. Square tube and bar stock. I agree that getting one made would be most expensive, with subsequent parts making each cheaper. Get to quantity four and you can reduce the per part price by probably 50%. My take on it would be to supply your intact assembly as a template, then get two or four made so you have matched pairs. The materials are a handful of dollars, so cost is setup and machine time. If it was more than a couple hours for 4ea I'd be surprised.

Ok, well that's fair. I could order more than one. Do you have a referral to someone who could do it where it would come out good?

Not really. Not familiar with your area. But google search brought me here. Pics show he does some detailed stuff. I’d be curious what his estimate/quote would be.

so far my options are to find one, or have some kind of metalworker sort it out, unfortunately i just dont know much about fabrication, or even how to find a good one

I am sure you probably already tried but did you google "adjustable lid stay". There are a lot of options.

i have yes. i suspect ive googled for... 40+ hours by this point. i just don't like the look of those much, theyre quite bulky, or they won't fit properly on the exterior, etc.

I'm not even really _trying_ to completely hijack his design, but it really is amazingly elegant and can't be improved upon. Whoever originally jerry rigged that did a fantastic job finding all the right parts and pieces. It's clean, out of the way, very effective, and very nice looking

An Adjustable Tension Slide with the slide enclosed? Gonna' be tough to find an exact match.
