The generator in my 2001 Sea View will run just fine for weeks. Then it won't start. Plenty of gas. I prime it, it turns over, but nada -- it won't start.

However, if I wait a week or so, it will usually start up.

What's going on?

Sounds like time for a tune up. Change fuel filter, clean carb, new spark plug and check the choke mechanism.

Next time it fails to start, pull the plug and see if it's wet. If wet, then it's flooded. Connect the plug to the ignition wire and touch the plug to engine metal and crank - check for spark.

Sometimes all it needs is for the gas to evaporate before starting.

If the plug is dry then there is fuel starvation. Fuel filter or carb main jet gummed up are usually the culprits.

Verify fuel starvation by using starter fluid sprayed into carb or even air filter.
