Where am I?

When traveling in your RV do you ever have a problem with waking up and wondering where you are? By this I mean wake up, know you are in the RV, but having to then think, where is the RV, what will you see if you look out the window, will it be a parking lot, or a scenic vista, etc?

I not only wake up wondering where I am but also who I am and why I am.

We're in the latter part of a 9k-mile, 40+ stop trip. So yah, it happens frequently that I awaken to wonder where we are, is this a travel day, etc.
In my advancing years that happens when we're not traveling, too.

Happens more than you think, especially when we are actively traveling. Lol sometimes even when we have been volunteering at a park a few weeks in.

I've experienced that from time to time, but it's not a regular thing. And I've encountered it in hotel rooms as well as the RV, so I think it's more a question of mental state when you awaken rather than an RVing thing. I suspect we've all awakened in a bit of a fog or befuddled state and it takes a moment (or two or three) to reconnect with reality. Perhaps being awakened during a dream or aroused from a very deep sleep? I think our brains are often somewhere else as we sleep. Down the proverbial rabbit hole...

Happens to me quite often. We stay at a state historic site in Louisiana approximately 6-9 months out of the year as a camp host.

Over the course of the year, we may return "home" to Indiana for a month or two. Mostly we will sleep in the camper, but on occasion sleep in the house.

We also have done 3 years of Camp Hosting in North Carolina for the months of July and August.

And then we also travel (more consistently now) to South Dakota for a week or 2, and then Iowa for a week or so.

Mostly, our stays are for several days to several months. And then, we sometimes are actually home.

We are "home" right now and slept in the camper last night, after sleeping in the house for the last month because the camper was in the shop getting some work done. The alarm went off earlier than usual because my wife had a doctor appointment EARLY this morning. The sun had not even broken crest yet. She got up and I laid there a few more minutes ... all the while think we were in the house. I sat up in bed and was actually shocked to see the wall of the camper (not our house bedroom wall and window), and for a moment had a black-out ... where am I. Then I realized I was in the camper, and then I couldn't figure out ... where is the camper actually sitting? Iowa, South Dakota, North Carolina, Louisiana, or our own driveway in Indiana. It lasted just a few seconds, but it sure was spooky!

Only did that once many years ago. Was on a business trip and we signed a big deal and went out to celebrate. And celebrate. And celebrate. Woke up in my room the next day and looked around and wondered where I was and how I got there. Opened up the drapes and looked down and had no idea where I was. Called the front desk and asked simply "Can you tell me what city this is?" After a brief pause the young man said "You are in Reno, Nevada, Sir at the Atlantis Resort Hotel." Well, OK.
Never have done it whilst RV'ing.

That has never happened with me from my RV.

However, it is common between here and my Reno house. I wake up and sometimes I need to look around to see which house I am in. I have guessed incorrectly a few times, but it's only when I am first waking up and before my coffee fix.

I've awakened in the RV and not realized that I'm in the RV and wondered what the heck is going on. It's also happened the other way around too. This feeling rights itself after a few seconds. I think it's because both locations have a mirrored closet door to the right of my side of the beds so things are reversed if I'm on my right side.

Overnight stops can be especially confusing.

I used to travel frequently for my jobs and wake up disorientation was more common then. Especially after an evening of drinking.

It has never been a problem, just slightly weird.

I'll tell you what's worse: waking up next to your wife of 57 years and thinking "Who the H### is this and where is my wife?".

Nope, Never had that problem. But then I drink coffee not that forget brew.

The thing that is weird about living in an RV is that the location changes but the place you are sleeping stays the same. I often wake up and cannot remember which direction my rig is facing or where I am, exactly. It takes opening the blackout blinds or curtains to locate myself.

I frequently wake up in the RV wondering where I am because my wife is screaming "YOU'RE GOING TO HIT THAT CAR".

I experience this disorientation from time to time. If we've just started traveling again, it's more about where to find the bathroom.
Sometimes it combines with deja vu. Don't know where I am, but remember being there before, not knowing where I was.

My favorite, somewhat similar, was when my older son was tornado chasing with some fellow meteorology students the summer after he graduated (my graduation gift). I called his cell and asked, “where are you?” After a very very long pause, he said somewhat quizzically “Oklahoma??” Narrowing it down much more than that wasn’t a possibility. The group traveled wherever the storms would brew and did oil changes on the van weekly.

We have a timer that turns on the coffee pot at about 6:00 am. So the only thing I think of when I awake is where the coffee pot is located.

I asked this question because I felt this feeling a few times on this summer's circa 3,700 mile 5+ week long trip staying at about 17-18 different locations ranging from 1 night to 7 nights at the same place, particularly towards the end of the trip, waking up and momentarily thinking I am still in a campground I had left 3-4 nights earlier.
