Hi,

So im working on fixing my large sewer clean out  pipe for the sewer connection that comes out of the ground.  Its a large turquoise colored pipe that appears to be 4", so i got a 4" fitting at the store today but it does not fit the pipe,  The fitting is the same size as the old fitting, its white also, has 4" on the side of it but yet it wont fit the pipe.

Is it possible they put glue on the pipe to soften it or heated it up to soften it and then put the fitting on there.  Maybe 4" turquoise colored pipe is different than white pvc pipe.  I think im using a schedule 27 fitting.  Threads on one end and a female on the other end, it should just slide over the pipe but its the exact same size as the pipe, so i dont know how they got the old one on there.  I had to cut it off to make it shorter so my hoses would drain.

see pic....  do i need to get some kind of adapter fitting, i think maybe that pipe up inside the coupling is smaller.  So how do i fix it now that its cut off.  Is there a special fitting to adapt it back.

Sewer pipe has an enlarged end that slips over the outside of the next pipe.  You probably cut it off the turquoise pipe when you removed the old fitting.

You need a PVC coupling to fit between the sewer pipe and the PVC fitting.  One of these should work:

I'll see your bleeding and raise you a dead battery.

I?ve always been able to take a heat gun or hair dryer and enlarge the hose to fit. Takes patience, gloves, and a controlled vocabulary.

djw2112 - The green pipe is 4" SDR 35 made specifically for underground sewer and drainage and has a unique OD so PVC Sched 40 or other pipe need an adapter.

Home depot has the 4" adapter for under $6 bucks.

Hope that helps!

Edit: Lou beat me to it.  Sorry Lou, somehow I went right by your reply.

Hope u got ur bat fixed but ill counter raise u sewage on my feet first time i dumped lol

Thanks for adapter link , how do i cut verticle sdr 35 straight.  2 tries so far and its not straight.  Does the hose clamp trick work?

seem - give the impression or sensation of being something or having a particular quality.
seam - a line along which two pieces of fabric are sewn together in a garment or other article.

It's difficult to avoid blade wander when using a narrow blade, e.g. a jig saw or hack saw.  You will cut a straighter line if you use a saw with a wide, stiff blade. That's why a miter saw (aka back saw) is used to cut trim. The drawback for this task is that the rigid back prevents cuts deeper than about 3", thus requiring two cuts. Putting the piece in a miter box is the surest way to guarantee a perpendicular cut.

A standard hand saw has a wide blade and no rigid back to get in the way, but it flexes more.

It's not critical the get the cut perfect - the joint can be off several degrees without bothering anything.  You can use a rough file to square it off as much as needed.

OK. Everyone who has NOT dumped or splashed sewage on themselves, raise your hand.  ::)  (BTW, my hand is not raised).  ;D ;D ;D

For a saw that will make a nice straight cut in pipe, get a PVC saw. Nice wide blade and teeth set to easily cut the PVC and other plastics.

I have used the Lennox saw for several years, and it is well worth the money to have around.

Even a regular old carpenters hand saw will do a decent job, but you have to have the wide blade.
