In the 1980's a machinist at the factory drove his CL C MH to British Honduras, as he was born there. On the return trip he hit a cow that walked out in front of his MH. The Mexican police were called, he and his wife were taken to police HQ and his MH towed because the radiator was destroyed and fenders and grill also.
He had not indicated he spoke spanish, and listened while the police discussed how much money they could get from him. When he did speak in Spanish they looked shocked and completely changer their talk.
When they were released they were on their own to get their MH and find someone to make repairs. He finally located enough parts to get the MH running, and drove to the USA. In S. Texas he got the MH (Chevy) properly repaired and drove home.
He said I would never advise anyone to drive deep into Mexico based on my experience.
