Windows 11 Ads

This article just hit my screen and I thought it might be useful to some of the good folk here.

Windows 11 won't show any ads if you disable these settings

Hmmm... an ad-based link that proposes to tell us how to avoid ads?? Oh the irony:

Not willing to endure their ads to see how to avoid ads, but what ads are they talking about in Windows?? I don't' recall ever seeing any ads in the OS itself.

The think OP was referring to the ads that Windows 11 itself shoves in your face. Microsoft is using the operating system that you paid for, to spy on you and sell stuff to you. No thank you.
Ads from the internet you have to deal with the same... ad blockers and such. Firefox and Chrome do work differently. Chrome, owned by Google, has cleverly disabled a key capability that makes it harder for ad blockers to work. "Read about chrome manifest v3". This is one of the reasons why I use a Firefox derivative with ad-blockers. So I can watch youtube in (mostly) peace.

Have you tried Brave? I normally use Edge because I need the IE mode to view my house cameras. But I usually switch to Brave to watch a YouTube.

I use Brave for a lot of sites. It is very comfortably AD-free.

No, same internet. As mentioned above, browsers work differently from each other, but at least Firefox is essentially the same with either OS- don't use others much.

I tried Ubuntu Mint, I was getting used to the different software, but couldn't ever get my files and documents transferred. My workaround was to to to MS Onedrive when I needed to see or read something. I never could get the online transfer instructions to work. Even the Ubuntu discussion forums were unclear to me.

Ads are coming from your browser not from Windows.

Other computer professionals were using Brave before I found out about it in 2016. I've been using it exclusively since then. It is based on Chrome but It blocks most all ads and malware. It is also the most secure and fastest, largely due to blocking ads and malware.

Some people are afraid of Brave because it has some crypto features. But you don't have to use those crypto features. Brave was developed to be secure because billions of dollars are transferred thru crypto.

It doesn't work with Amazon video because Amazon blocks Brave for not displaying their ads. It works with everything else that I've found.
