Question about adding a 50 amp rv panel at our family reunion site.

I would add that the dryer outlet MUST be the newer 4 prong 30A/240V outlet and not the old style found in older homes that is just 3 prongs. The 3 prong does not have a neutral return wire. Just 2 hot wires and a safety ground. Additionally the wiring in older homes may have a smaller gauge...

Good point. I didn't think about that.

Question about adding a 50 amp rv panel at our family reunion site.

CJAG, are you aware that RV 50amp service is really a total of 100amp to the RV? I ask this as you stated that the cabin has 100amp panel, so you are potentially adding an additional 100amp load on the circuit going to the cabin.

    I-15 or I-84

Your diesel truck should not have a problem pulling a 12,000 pound trailer on any grade up to about 10%. Is there some other reason why you feel it is very important to avoid 6% or 7% grades? BTW the pull up and drop down on US-89A in AZ is worse than what you will find on I-84 in Oregon...

How to test xantrex 2000 inverter??

I think a better analogy than using a gas tank going do toward empty or 100,000 miles on tires would be to take a typical auto/truck gasoline engine. Compare the number of amp hours you can take out of a battery, such as the 50,000AH used in Marks example to the number of revolutions (think of...

How to test xantrex 2000 inverter??

Here is a battery life cycle chart from Trojan batteries showing that if you only cycle your battery down by 20% (80% full) and then recharge to 100% you will see 4000 cycles. On the other hand if you take the battery down 80% (20% full) you can expect to see about 1/4 the number of cycles...

    Solar help/ideas

Marine batteries are a combination starting and deep cycle battery so don't have the long term capacity of a true deep cycle battery such as a golf cart battery. The marine batteries will most likely serve your needs, even if you travel with the trailer. Especially since you already have...

Those Who Have Used New Orleans Ferries to Get Around?

Parking is at a premium in the FC and streets are tight. I would not want to try to park in the city. We had a 2002 Chevy Blazer, mid sized SUV, and felt happier parking across the river and taking the ferry. Besides the ferry ride was kind of fun and the kids will probably enjoy the ride.

    Solar help/ideas

The very first thing is just how much power do you use in the trailer when you are there????? If it is just lights, water pump, charging laptops, phones and a gas elect fridge on gas, then you don't use much power. A single 100 watt solar panel, 200' of 10 gauge wire (2 wires) and a pair of...

    Convert 120V RV to 220V

HueyPilot suggestion is the best. A 30amp RV has an AC power circuit breaker panel with only one 30amp hot lead coming in. Trying to separate out some circuits to a second 30 amp power source is difficult.

How to test xantrex 2000 inverter??

All the high power heating things, like coffee pot, hair dryer, etc have a wattage label on them and will usually use a 1000 to 1500 watts. Check the label and limit the use of really high power devices. With only 2 6V deep cycle batteries, using a 1200-1500 watt device is putting an...

Those Who Have Used New Orleans Ferries to Get Around?

We used the Algiers Point over to Canal Street ferry. Good parking at the gravel lot next to the ferry terminal. Probably won't fill up unless there is some special event, like Mardi Gras. You wrote "large" vehicle. Is that a HDT with extended wheel base and maybe dual axles, or just a dually...

Proper wiring for a battery disconnect switch

The REASON for disconnecting the negative cable first is so that when you are using the wrench and it accidently touches part of the frame or ground it is not a problem. Accidently shorting the wrench to the frame when removing the positive cable first, not only can cause sparks, but can weld...
