What is the optimal length for 2 in an RV?

I was parked in a campsite on day and this 1/2 ton GM backed in the site next to me,  the woman jumped out and came to talk to me.  She asked me what was the length of my 5th and I told her it was 24ft.  Her husband told her they could only haul a 21ft trailer with the truck.  I was hauling the...

    Rockwood 8317ss tt

I tow a 5th with 11000 GVW and a pin weight of (25% of 11000Lbs)  2750 lbs,  My truck weights over 7000lbs thus 9750 lbs GVW when the trailer hooked.  So I am left with 10,000 on the truck and 8250 Lbs on the trailer wheels.  With this combination I feel I am safe. Imagine a trailer of 8000 lbs...

    clueless salesperson

I met a camper in a campground that had all the rear wheel studs on his truck stripped so bad they I had to use my max bar to undo one nut and all the threads were damaged, so I told him he needed to change all his studs. He blammed it on the tire installers that had overtorqued them. I told him...

Using cruise control when pulling our fiver?

To use cruise control depends on the transmission shifting.  I had an automatic 6.5L GM and found that setting the cruise at 55MPH and cruising at 60MPH was great because my truck had much more power on cruise so I would let it shift in the hills and I would top the hills at 55MPH.  Now with my...

    I need a lift! (Suspension)

Look at the Jayco 5th wheel trailer spring to frame attachement.  I had to raise my trailer by 2".  I had 12 Plates cut by a machine shop and drilled 4 holes 9/16" dia. same size as the eye holes and bolted the plates outsde the existing spring brackets. Then I fasten the spring to a hole 2"...

    Updating/fixing my 5'er

I would keep an eye on the flex of your pin box. To much extension might cause additional stress on your box framing.  Mine was just extended to the last set holes for my shortbed GM. I am in the prescess of repairs at the moment, There are 4 cracks on the beams and a beam is bend 1/2" on 88".

I made my own bike rack that fits in a 2" tube at the back of the trailer and also can transfer to the truck.  I made it of 1 1/2" x 11Ga square tubing. its fully adjustable for 2 bikes and a tandem bike.  I hold the bikes by 2 bungees on the bottom of the wheels and let them bounce.   I have...

    Backing up a fifth wheel

I have a hard time following instructions.  I carry 2 x 6 x 12 Lumber for leveling blocking and use these for guides.  I will get out of my truck and look at the location the trailer has to park and then laydown the blocks where the wheels will travel. I usualy put 3 or 4 down. These blocks are...

    1. I own a Glendale 34FT long 5th wheel trailer for the last 11 years.  Since then I have had numerous spring breakage on the right side, and replaced both side Springs on the axle to make sure not to change the alignment.
