    Charleston and Kids

Thanks, Trailer traveler, I got the same sort of hits that you mentioned when I did a Google search.  I was just wondering if anyone had any preferences for their kids.  I may have made a mistake by not mentioning that Matthew absolutely loves audio tours.  He is enthralled when we take him to...

    Charleston and Kids

Due to some family matters, we've only been able to take one trip in the fifth wheel over the past two years, and we're feeling the symptoms of withdraw. It's unusual when breaks in my teaching schedule and my son's fall break at his school line up, but they did just that this coming October! ...

    looking for a november destination

It's run by an older couple who do not take well to technology.  Everything is done on paper.  We've stayed there probably 25 to 30 times and we still need to give them all of our information because they don't keep any electronic records.

    looking for a november destination

Sorry I'm getting in this conversation so late, but when I saw you were asking about Gatlinburg, I thought I'd offer my 2 cents.  We stay at Twin Creek RV Resort (http://twincreekrvresort.com/).  It's one of the more expensive campgrounds, but it's right on the trolley route and there's a Food...

    Replacement Cam Hatch Lock

Yeah, I guess that's true about the screwdriver. I was just hoping to keep the honest people honest.

    Replacement Cam Hatch Lock

We put our fifth-wheel in storage when not in use, and I typically unload everything to avoid having even the simplest stuff stolen. I was thinking about replacing the cam latch locks on the basement hatches with something more secure so I could leave some stuff in the basement with a little...

Route Recommendations From Utah to Tennessee

Thanks, Ned, that was exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

How are rising fuel prices affecting your 2011 plans?

We are still going to take one long trip this year (probably very long!), but our shorter trips will definitely be closer to home.  Like skyking4ar2, since the last increase in fuel costs, I have done my calculations at $5.00/gallon for diesel and reveled in the money we were coming out ahead! ...

Route Recommendations From Utah to Tennessee

I've been perusing the forum for information regarding trips west, and I've seen that many of us are planning or have taken similar trips.  Although we've been up and down the East Coast, we've never been west of the Mississippi River in our 5'er.  We are planning to head west from Tennessee on...

Sad ending to a good trip

I'm so sorry, not only for your loss, but for the uncertainty that is accompanying it.  We unexpectedly lost our black lab a year ago, and to this day my nine-year-old son keeps a journal that he writes in when he, "has sad memories," about Casey.  Our two new lab-mixes are doing their best to...

Pros and cons of dual wheels vs single wheels towing fifth wheel

I'm probably coming at this from an entirely different angle than you, but I prefer my SRW for a number of reasons.  We've owned our SRW F-350 longbed for four years now, and I am very happy with it.  We tow a 32' 5'er with it and have found it to be very stable when semis blow past in either...

    Cold Remedy

I teach, so I usually catch the colds that the students bring in. After grading papers especially, I'll wash my hands like crazy. I've tried everything. I've been using Zicam since it first came out many years ago, and I have to say it significantly reduces my down time. I panic if I feel...

    Blessed to be an RV'er

I don't mean to fill up the Forum with general musings, but I just feel really blessed to be able to enjoy this lifestyle.  In February of 2006, my wife and I purchased our first camper, a fifth wheel, relying on a great deal of guidance from this forum.  Since then, we've been all up and down...

    Traveling to Disneyworld in March.

As hinted at earlier, part of the cost of Fort Wilderness is offset by the fact that you won't have to pay parking fees.  What we've found is nice is to drive from FW to the parks so we don't have to wait for a bus.  It's nice not having to lug our stuff around.  If you're a guest at FW, parking...

    Myrtle Beach

We always stay at Ocean Lakes, not necessarily because it's a great campground, but because my son loves the three swimming pools they have.  It's pretty close to a Walmart and the trip is an easy one.  We've been there three times and don't had any complaints. -Dave
