    Fixin' Oldies

This "Fiberglass RV Forum" of which you speak....I am certainly no expert, but on initial examination I don't see a whole lot of difference in the subjects they cover. Any idea why they feel they need a completely different forum? Or just more folks with NIH problems? And why limit "Fixin...

This will be hilarious some day: our blackwater tank fell off

How to repair? You already have been given some ideas, they are much better than mine. Perhaps not quite as satisfying. I was thinking of a match....

    Limping with a blown tire

Well my new tires ran nice and smoothly, and my last trip went without any trouble.....from tires. I did notice some damage from the previous blow-out (blow-up?) where the disintegrating tread looks like it swung around and upward against the adjacent "basement" storage bay. That tire did...

Do you need to winterize if it drops to 25°, one night but is above freezing the rest of the time during a 10-day weather forecast?

Are you set up somewhere with hook-ups? You could just leave the water running overnight. You could buy a roll of heavy plastic at the hardware store and "wrap" below your chassis, to slow down the cold weather from whistling through any exposed pipes under the floor, and add a couple electric...

    Limping with a blown tire

Yeah, that might be preferable, but the owner's manual says not to try changing any tires myself, it's too dangerous for a dummy like an engineer to hoist a 14,000 lb truck. They didn't even provide any form of jacking hardware, or identify any spots on the chassis that could be used as...

    Limping with a blown tire

Actually, I'm kinda stuck with having to drive it over to the tire shop anyway. Since I will have to replace a bunch of old tires, I already have that expense to deal with, and the cheapest road service I could find that might help me in my driveway quoted a price (for putting on ONE tire)...

    Limping with a blown tire

Is it safe? The last time I drove, we had one of the four rear tires blow on the outbound leg, which we replaced with new. We also had one of the rear tires blow on the return leg, just as we got back into town (same side as the new tire). I parked this mess in my barn and now I have to get it...

    Liquid Roof

Thanks for the feedback, TheBar. Your situation sounds just like what I want to do, I just want to cover the exposed part of the rolled-up canopy. And a year or two of protection would take care of it fine. For that matter, I kinda wonder why someone doesn't sell a one-foot-wide strip of...

    Liquid Roof

Might be a slightly different subject (sorry), but has anyone tried using these liquid-roof-type-products to patch small areas of rollout canopies? Yeah, I know, the correct fix is to buy a new canopy. But I'm wondering if a liquid roof patch might last a little while..... Thanks ahead of time...

    Emergency fresh water tank sanitizing

You can certainly try peroxide (or whatever else) to help, but I think you will find that the "chlorine" smell will dissipate fairly quickly with a little more use. I use bleach in an injection tank at my home, to kill an iron bacteria smell that comes in from the well and the aquifer, and if...

    towing with Ford E150 van

Just in case you had the idea in the back of your head to use this tow vehicle to pull ANYTHING up a mountain pass (camping in Colorado is great!), don't do it. Just flat do not do it. Vehicle tow ratings are for down close to sea level, on flatlands. Get to 8 or 10,000 feet, where the air (and...

    Tire Age

And it might be a good argument. But. For a "home" source of dry N2 it looks to me like I'm gonna spend another $5-600 for equipment (at Aircraft Spruce & Specialty) minimum, and then I'm also gonna need to pay for N2 tank refills? At some point in all this spending, I could just buy new tires...

    Tire protection when stored

If travelling on an interstate (if the pavement is not cracked and damaged) I will go about 65 mph, but any more than that and gas mileage goes crazy and everything in the cabin rattles and squeaks and makes me crazy. Rougher roads get much slower speeds.

    Tire protection when stored

OK, vehicle and tire data-- Fleetwood 31 ft with dual rears (both sides) TOYO "open country" steel belted radials, LT225/75R16 (all four rears) Tire calendar age unknown (we bought this beast used in 2018 so at least 5 yrs old) Tire mileage unknown, 30400 total miles on chassis (so they can't...

    Tire protection when stored

How do you guys put your RV away for a couple months and keep the tires protected from "storage damage"? I am getting frequent tread separations---two on the road on my last trip. I don't like wasting vacation time prowling for tire stores and waiting for service. When I park it at home, it is...
