    Boondocking Locations

Welcome, and we hope you have a great visit. I'm not clear by what you mean by "boondocking".  The states you mention, particularly Colorado, Utah,  New Mexico and Arizona, have lots of very scenic country with good two-lane paved highways that meander through it. Much of the land is managed by...

Interactive Quiz. A little humor for those over 50!

I'm not that old, but I've had several vehicles, cars and trucks, that had the dimmer on the floor by the clutch pedal. I still prefer them there, and they lasted longer than the car did, too. For levers, my all time favorite was a Willys Jeep, it had a forest of levers on the floor, one was...

I wonder what some of the spray-on truck bed liner would be like? Line-X or Rhino liner, etc.

    steep grades on I-70

Unless you have a specific good reason for going on I-70, I suggest you go around on I-80. It's a much more nearly level road than the 70. Scenery is not as spectacular, but not so much steep climbs, either.

    Denver E-470 Toll Road

Having lived in Douglas County near the junction of C-470, E-470 and I-25 for many years, I know to avoid the toll road, it's not cheap. I have to ask, though, why are you going to the airport in Denver so often? I hope the folks flying out of DEN know they are paying an extra fee to the city of...

    Colorado! Out n About..~

I'm a newbie myself, and don't have much RV advice to offer. But I have lived in Colorado for a number of years. While you're there, be sure to drive up to the top of Mt. Evans, an easy '14'er" to bag. Fantastic view from the top.

Newbie wants guidance on travel trailer purchase

Thanks, again, to you all for the good info. There is so much to learn and to consider. As for altitude, we used to live in Douglas County, Colorado, just South of Denver. We went into the high country often with our Dodge van and Ford pickup, up to 14,000 ft on Mt. Evans, and never noticed a...

Newbie wants guidance on travel trailer purchase

Thanks, Carl and RJ. Yup, a 4x4 is a given for us, been driving them for many years in the back country. I hadn't thought about the diesel, though, I considered it too heavy, and expensive, for the back country. Didn't know that about the power loss, 3% per 1000 ft. is huge, we live at 6500'...

4 wheel pop up camper - for occaisonal use in snow country

I don't know about your camper, but when we had a Jayco pop-up tent trailer it was fine in the cold. We took it deer and elk hunting in the mountains, temps in the teens and single digits, and it stayed warm inside with the little heater it came with. Snow slid off the sloped ends pretty well...

    Greetings, newbie here

Thanks, Tom. I appreciate the reply. Just spent some time using the search and browsing through stuff. Lots of good info here, seems like.

    Casita's vs. Popup's?

Yes, that's my point, three years old and no replies? How friendly is that?

    Little trailers and teardrops

Just did a search and didn't find much. Wonder if the little trailers, the Casita, Skamp and etc., and teardrops are lumped in here with the big guys, or do they have their own topic?

    Casita's vs. Popup's?

Gee whizz, no replies to this yet?? I, too, would be interested to know what you folks think.

    New to popups... any suggestions?

Ditto to what's been said, and I'll add this from our experience: when pulling out the end bunks, slide them out easily, not hard or fast. If you slide them out hard/fast, you can break the stop blocks, usually a plastic block, that hold them in place, and then next time you go to pull them out...

MPG on a 1/2 ton Suburban towing a popup trailer?

Back in the mid-70's we towed our Jayco popup with our International Travelall, 292 ci 6-banger, and later with our Dodge Cornet sedan, with 318 ci V8. Never noticed any significant effect on gas mileage, but the Dodge had overheating problems from time to time in the Colorado Rockies.
