Spring 2014: The Pacific North West

We keep in touch with RV Forum as it is a friendly place to be. Now that we have got into our most recent trip to the USA it might be worth sharing our blog (link in signature line). To put it into context we are retired, live in the UK , have bought a TT and a van and have been touring the USA...

So sorry, I did not realise the thrust of your posting.

    Keeping us safe

All great fun guys. I do so enjoy reading about your exploits. Especially when I can say 'Been There' and it brings back memories of some aspect of your wonderful country. Was Seilerbird being serious or sarcastic about maintaining watchfulness after 9/11? I couldn't tell.

RV park close to 1-10 around Lake City, Fl

Suwannee River S.P., west of Live Oak, just off I10 is very pretty for an overnight stop. Stephen Foster S.P in White Springs is also very pretty, used to be great food at the Telford Hotel as well (now reopened, yet again). Both recently modernised (2008) campsites, both on the river Suwannee...

I talk to my wife !

I notice all these comments are from the driver perspective. Perhaps you should swop roles and try and direct effectively. It's not easy getting that rig in exactly the correct spot, when you have to direct a deaf idiot, with the reaction time of a glacier, who obviously does not understand...

    How Others See Us

Well that all made for an entertaining read. Thanks for the thread. Monday at Beall's I call 'Blood in the aisles' day as it can get quite ferrocious, though my wife loves it. Pleasant though it is to get the discount, I cannot see why some retailers/eating places have a 'Senior' discount for...

First trip to mountains - need advice

Oh, I am always up for movie locations. Growing up in UK meant that the American Dream was just that -we could see it but could not touch it, so when we started our travels in the USA we really enjoy finding movie locations. We spent a substantial amount of one trip finding and visiting...

    New Orleans Advice needed

Don't forget the fish market at Westwego (right outside the park - Real cheap shrimp and crab (well it was in 2011)). I thought the FQ and PL parks were pricey then, but look at them now: FQ is $95 p.n. (plus tax?), though you can get a 10% Good Sam discount.

    Towing up and down hills

Whether it is right or wrong, if going downhill I will always shift down so that I feel that the engine is working to balance the acceleration due to gravity. Usually 2nd, but even 1st if it especially steep. I don't mind if we have to go very slowly. I don't like to rely on the brakes as they...

    Monument Valley Navajo campground?

I'll second or third that for Goosenecks, there are not many places you can pull up where there is such a spectacular view down from your front door. Though I know as soon as I have said that I am sure that many of you know of better ones. Is it boondocking if it is a recognised campground...

    Buying vs Renting

You don't get something for nothing. RV'ing in comfort is not cheap to set up. If they are interested in the great outdoors and have only a modest budget - then budget modestly. Perhaps buy a pop up for ~$1k, which will not need a special tow car. That's where we moved to from a tent. We did...

First trip to mountains - need advice

Yep, it comes down to it when your garage is bigger than your hills - It's not the tallest building in Florida, but I think the VAB at Cape Canaveral may be the biggest by volume, certainly at 525ft it is higher than Britton Hill. Of course there are always the Florida Mountains up to 7295 ft -...

Whats a good fuel efficient motor home under 10K?

Is Linen Moebelly's brother, alter ego, pseudonym or just plain taking the Michael? Who on 30th January also posted in this thread: "Ignore these guys.  You probably want to get something made in the 80's through 90's built on a toyota p/u frame.  My dad had an old Chinook built on a 79 toyota...
